I wonder what the Lurkers, Moose and Boss call home ? |
|
I live in Ottawa. I am not from Ontario.
I was born in a small town In New Brunswick called Oromocto. Got to love Canadian town names! It's no Moose Jaw though! I then moved to Moncton, N.B., Riverview N.B, Chatham N.B. (Now known as Mirimichi), and then Dartmouth, Nova Scotia (Now part of Halifax). I finished High School and University in Halifax, and then when it came time to find a job... well if I wanted something interesting it was either Toronto or Ottawa. I like Ottawa better, but that's because I'm a small town person, and I think Toronto is too big for me.
When people ask, I say I'm from the Maritimes, because it's an easier answer. Even though I've been in Ontario for over 10 years, I still consider myself a Maritimer.
The reason I hate the Maple Leafs so much is because the fans of the team in Ottawa are extremely annoying, more so than the fans of any other team, including Montreal.
Although I will admit their team this year is the best they've had in a long time. The changes they made in the weeks before the trade deadline did significantly improve their team. I think the match-up with Ottawa is now very even. I think it could go either way.
I think their forwards are pretty even. I think Ottawa's defense is significantly better, but I think Toronto's goaltending is significantly better (as long as Belfour stays healthy). Unfortunately, goaltending is usually the deciding factor in playoff series. Of course it's the first time in 4 matchups that Ottawa is not the favorite. Maybe they'll do better as the underdog.

Diehard fans in Toronto are also very annoying. |

How's the game going now that you got your first maso under your belt? |
|
Well my second attempt at a Maso game did not go very well. Within 3 years, the Arceans had Grav Accelerators, the Galactic Stock Exchange and Aphrodisiacs and I had not even met them yet. I was just slightly behind in the military techs but was on good terms with any civs I had met.
Eventually I was able to get to par with all except the Arceans. They literally owned half the galaxy with a 3 to 1 ratio in terms of systems. I was never able to get any civ to take on the Arceans as no matter what I offered, they stated that the Arceans were way to strong. All majors were at weakest or weak while the Arceans were at strongest for both. I was always hostile to cool with the Arceans. I managed to get them up to warm but that lasted only 1 turn before going back down to wary. I tried getting the Arceans to draw the other civs into war, but no luck. After 4 hours of the game, it was just a matter of time before I gave up to a lost cause as they had the majority of achivements/wonders, had about 20 techs more than me (mainly military), and they had 3/4 of the galaxy culturaly and were flipping systems from the others on a regular basis.
My 3rd attempt went much better and I managed to submit the game.
Last night I tried to start a game (after doing my Training for RBGC5), but I do not know what happened, as I had no luck in getting systems (I tend to play Large/tight/rare). I tried a couple of times to get off the ground, but nothing. Here is an example of one game I started: I was in a corner surrounded by the usual 8 sectors and had a combined 23 systems available to explore. Not a single one had a planet over 13. I was 2 years into the game and still had not found another system to colonize and was surrounded by the Yor and Drengin and was having to move into their territory to find systems. I did finally managed to find two systems, but they were controlled by the Carinoids. I called it quits for the night.
Oh well. Definitely tougher and keeps me on my toes.

This lurker has finally caught up with the thread! (pant pant) Hi there undead! It has been a while since I stopped by. I see there is a little Torian killing action going on here. Well, the CSF has a long history of Torian bashing, believe it or not. An excerpt from the story archive is in order.:
"The Canadian Federation had become the Canadian Star Federation (CSF) after grabbing a pair of colonies. The fledgeling empire felt like it was losing to the other human factions and good colony space was at a premium. The zone of control system had already been basically abandoned, and a few felt it would be necessary to take other colonies by force, although they were human ones. The CSF had been building transports just for this purpose. And, to project the will and might of the empire, the great battle ship CSF Niobe had been built in secret. It was fitted with a cutting edge prototype hyperdrive to make it the fastest ship known, but had never seen space trials in interstellar space yet. Just as CSF command was agonizing over which human colonies to attack and when, scouts had found a nice nearby star system and the CSF was in a position ahead of the other humans to get there first. The Canadians see a Torian colony ship take the Lugosi system right from under them. Now it was a simple choice: do not attack fellow humans at all. Take the Torian colony at Lugosi using the invasion transports and the new Niobe. Lugosi was virtually undefended, but the Niobe was overdue. The invasion fleet had to act fast before effective defenses could be mounted, so the invasion was on.
The CSF now had the system and a de facto war with the Torians. Within a month of the invasion, rumors of a ghost ship emerged. An eerie, white fog that can be seen, but not scanned engulfs the victim. Then a very battered and aged white ship bearing a red maple leaf passes in the fog. No sensors work, no communications, no bearings. That is the story that most survivors tell. The rest are victims, whose wrecked ships exit the fog with a crew that died a horrible death. Legend has it that the new hyperdrive malfunctioned, aging the ship and the crew past death itself. They are now the undead, seeking out the flesh of the living. In the years to come, many would try to use overwhelming firepower to destroy the Canadian Ghost Ship, but it disappears, only to reappear somewhere else. The ship never attacks fellow Canadians, whether they be Earthlings or Colonials. But when Canada needs it most dearly, the Ghost Ship will sail."
Thus the origin of the undead, the Canadian Ghost Ship, and an acquired taste for Torian flesh. Of course there is no agonizing over attacking other humans now. You guys eat them for lunch when they get in the way.
