okay im relatively new to galciv. I know most of the ins and outs of it, but there is one thing that vexes me. i start out with huge galaxy(AP btw)tight clusters and the races set on challenging or the level right above it. I find some okay to great systems, social prodcution is oin pretty good, tech is movin along, and im building a moderately sized fleet. then other races influnece starts creeping in all around me, races i haven't even "met" yet. suddenly their inlfuence completely out strips mine by 100 to 200 points in sectors that i have one even two colonies in and they have none! They dont even have colonies within a sector or two! please explain as this is very frustrating.

You get influence boost when meeting others race.

What is the planetary influence of planets in such sector?

Get everything you can which boost influence.

Most likely the AI got some influence resources. Try to grab some by yourself or trade for them

You need to build influence boosters like Res.Lab and Embassy.

Research techs with +10 influence and try to build the influence wonders and trade goods. Check JavaScout's excellent site for details http://webpages.charter.net/trevorpowdrell/index.htm Link

alright, thanx, but that brings another question i have: how does the ai summon forth these multitudes of construction ships early on in the game, research at about the same level as i do, and colonize just as much or more than i (depending on star density, 15< planets abundace etc.) ?

On levels above intelligent the AI has some advantages like productivity, influence, diplomacy, planet quality.

In short: everywere

But when you concentrate your powers on the important tasks you can manage to colonize and grap resources as good as the AI. Just forget about social building or technology. Do one after the other at the beginning.

This could start a great debate, but, I have found that carefully managing your sliders for the first 20 turns or so can achieve similar effects.

I think that it just depends on your playing strategy.
