I was doing a game on normal difficulty when two interesting things occurred.
1. One of the planets got a pq bonus of 35. I know what that is about.
2. The Dominion found a strange crystal that belonged to the draginol. It is giving them great power. What is this about?

The same thing happened in my last game. With the crystal. The difference was that the yor found it and I was at war with them

Those are two random events that might happen during a game. But in most games you won't see either.
