01.04.04

The Galciv Library has now been updated with all the newly submitted 'mods'

If you are looking to start using mods for the first time, there are some great new mods in the library. If you have any questions about installing them, please feel free to post your questions here.

I am aware that this forum is not the 'mods' forum! However, I believe that if you have a newbie question about installing a mod, you should be able to get your answer from a single thread. So please ask away

I will also add a 'featured mod' section to this thread, which will be updated whenever a new mod that stands out is submitted

Mindshock

First spotlight mod

The first mod to be highlighted is :-

Wasp by Amaymon

This is a great new mod that gives the user the chance to defend their colony in the earliest stages of the game, whilst not unbalancing the game in any way.

Minshock rating  = 5 Stars

You asked for questions about mods, so here goes. The only mod I've tried is CariElf's min colony ship. I've heard that some mods unbalance the game enough so that scores are not elegible for the metaverse. Is that correct? If so, are these mods allowed in the library? Is there some indication that these mods will disallow your scores? Thanks.

There are mods that cause you to get a 0 score. Most notable are the ones that cause a great increase in PQ, but are not events such as colonization events. These would be planetary mods that get the PQ over a certain level, I am not sure what. I think plantets over something around PQ 50 disqualify you.

Thanks, A Better Tomorrow. So most of the mods in the library would just add interesting variation to the game, and would not affect the score?

Yes. I do not think Mindshock puts mods into the library that might cause problems. Also, if you really want to be certain, download the Stardock Certified ones only.
Any other questions?

ABT

There are some mods in the library that may cause anomalous scores, but these carry indicators in the write up.

Any other questions jmgarth just ask

These are data files; they should be put in the Mods\Data directory of your GalCiv installation directory. UPISSUES and INVTACTIC files should be put in their respective folders within the Mods\Data directory (Mods\Data\UP_Issues and Mods\Data\InvasionTactics).

Also, the Mods folder contains other folders (Movies, Music, Sfx, etc.) that are used to hold files of their respective types.

I'm having trouble accessing older items in the general section of the library. Whenever I click the next button, or one of the numbers, it takes me into the ship's listing.

I have found that using certain browsers mess up occasionally. Are you using IE?

#12  by Veteran Icho Tolot - 4/4/2004 3:48:59 PM

It is messing with mozilla 1.5 too

#13  by Veteran Grand_Admiral_Thrawn - 4/4/2004 4:30:08 PM

Yeah, Netscape will not DL mods. I have to switch to IE to DL.

dl is ok, just shifting pages in the library doesn't work propperly

There are many Stardock certified mods. Those should not cause any submission problems.

I personally love the Death Glider ship. Very balanced in that it's more powerful then a frigate but more expensive to build and a lot more to maintain. But I find it's a nice ship while you wait for Battleships.

Also great is the mini-colony ship and the new freighter pack. You get "Improved" and "Advanced" frieghters which are faster, more expensive of course.

There are many others. Try them out!

Yes, navigation is broken for some month already. e.g. when I click on "Next" or "2" on the start page it navigates to

http://www.galciv.com/library.asp?wp=2&Sort=&searchtext=&LibID=1&Order= Link

which shows the second "Ships" page.

The problem is the "&LibID=1" it should be "&LibID=0".

Can anybody fix that?

I did not realize that it was a problem with the links. I just assumed that there were actually only three pages of mods and the 15 pages originally shown were an error.

Hopefully that gets fixed soon but in the meantime you should be able to use these links to access some of the pages:

1(http://www.galciv.com/library.asp?wp=1&Sort=UpdateDate&searchtext=&LibID=0&Order=Descending Link) 2(http://www.galciv.com/library.asp?wp=2&Sort=UpdateDate&searchtext=&LibID=0&Order=Descending Link) 3(http://www.galciv.com/library.asp?wp=3&Sort=UpdateDate&searchtext=&LibID=0&Order=Descending Link) 4(http://www.galciv.com/library.asp?wp=4&Sort=UpdateDate&searchtext=&LibID=0&Order=Descending Link) 5(http://www.galciv.com/library.asp?wp=5&Sort=UpdateDate&searchtext=&LibID=0&Order=Descending Link) 6(http://www.galciv.com/library.asp?wp=6&Sort=UpdateDate&searchtext=&LibID=0&Order=Descending Link) 7(http://www.galciv.com/library.asp?wp=7&Sort=UpdateDate&searchtext=&LibID=0&Order=Descending Link) 8(http://www.galciv.com/library.asp?wp=8&Sort=UpdateDate&searchtext=&LibID=0&Order=Descending Link) 9(http://www.galciv.com/library.asp?wp=9&Sort=UpdateDate&searchtext=&LibID=0&Order=Descending Link) 10(http://www.galciv.com/library.asp?wp=10&Sort=UpdateDate&searchtext=&LibID=0&Order=Descending Link) 11(http://www.galciv.com/library.asp?wp=11&Sort=UpdateDate&searchtext=&LibID=0&Order=Descending Link) 12(http://www.galciv.com/library.asp?wp=12&Sort=UpdateDate&searchtext=&LibID=0&Order=Descending Link) 13(http://www.galciv.com/library.asp?wp=13&Sort=UpdateDate&searchtext=&LibID=0&Order=Descending Link) 14(http://www.galciv.com/library.asp?wp=14&Sort=UpdateDate&searchtext=&LibID=0&Order=Descending Link) 15(http://www.galciv.com/library.asp?wp=15&Sort=UpdateDate&searchtext=&LibID=0&Order=Descending Link) 16(http://www.galciv.com/library.asp?wp=16&Sort=UpdateDate&searchtext=&LibID=0&Order=Descending Link) 31(http://www.galciv.com/library.asp?wp=31&Sort=UpdateDate&searchtext=&LibID=0&Order=Descending Link)

To get to a certain page you need only replace wp=1 in the link with the page number you want (ie. to get to page 20, you would replace it with wp=20). There are a total of 39 pages as of this post.

Edited: originally inserted some html code in here and the messageboard didn't like it so replaced it with standard links (doesn't look as nice).

Question about the events, if I add more, will that increase the frequency of them?

#22  by Veteran Grand_Admiral_Thrawn - 4/5/2004 8:03:54 PM

I do not believe so. There should be a way to do that, if there is not already a way possible.

No, just the diversity

There should be an option to do that. GalCivII?
