Hey all, I am trying to buy GalCiv and the Altarian Prophecy exp. pack. Can they be bought together? If so, what is it called (so I can look it up online/on websites of local stores)?

Yes, I realize that they can be downloaded off of this site, but in all honesty, Stardock charges literaly twice as much for the game as everyone else...

Also, what is the 'Gold' edition? Is this an updated version w/ all the patches/fixes? A new/different version? or what??

Thanks for any info.

Nope, I'm talking about the tactical map that you get when you hit the F9 function key. Sometimes the movement of the mouse will zoom in but I can't get the map to zoom back out.

I must be missing something. Are we talking about the mini-map in the upper right-hand corner? If so, use the "-" button above it to zoom out.

Hey, I downloaded all sorts of mods (gov types, events, ship mods, etc) but they dont show up in the game at all. What am I doing wrong?

You need to swich the mod function (in the menue) on (if you placed them in the mod folder) and restart the game

Push F9 again. Its a toggle between "tactical" and standard" maps.

Ok...I put all the stuff in the Mods folder, unzipped them, then put the mods ON in the game menu. Still cant utilize the new gov types or map types I downloaded. What gives?

Downloaded maps are not considered "mods" in the same sense as other mods. They are actually placed in the "custom map" folder found in the "data" folder of AP only. To access them in-game, you must choose "custom" under "galaxy size" and then "custom map" will appear. Under "custom map" the custom maps provided with AP will appear as well as any you add to the "custom map" folder".

hmm.. well I dont have AP. But I would still like to be able to have all of the gov and event mods that I downloaded. But they just simply arent working. I have them all in the mods folder..

The scroll problem I had with the Tac Map was a hardware problem, not a software. The toshiba laptop I play the game on doesnt have a center mouse button and keyboard commands will not scroll that map display in or out. I bought a cheap usb mouse, plugged it into the laptop, and was able to scroll the maps in and out like I wanted to.

TrekE, when you open the Mod folder, there are subfolders. Most of the mods go into the data subfolder. Political parties graphics go in the Gfx subfolder and political parties subsubfolder. But, in general, events, ships, etc. go in the data subfolder under the Mods folder. Is this where you put them?

Hey TrekE, Galciv does not leave you feeling empty like Civ3 does. I like civ3 but it is not in the same league as Galciv is.

By the way if you pickup Galciv be sure to check out Star Fleet Empire.. It seems like a fitting empire for you to consider joining with a name like yours.

Colour Blindness

My eyes are red/green deficient, although I can see most other colours reasonably well - blue and yellow particularly. Would this affect my playing this game? I have the demo download and so far it has not affected me.

Typwriter it should not cause you too much of a problem with the game itself. If you are concerned please contact Cari (one of the developers) who should be able to answer the question for you. Her email address is CariElf

TrekE if you still have a problem with the mods please email me Mace Griffin and i will happily walk you through your problem.

Thank you for taking the trouble to reply to my enquiry. I bought Homeworld but then found that I could not make out the correct colour of the small dots - red/brown/green. The game has been sitting on my shelf for quite sometime now.
The link to Cari's email address doesn't seem to work. Are you able to supply another?
Incidentally I would be interested to know who is registered as trypist. I thought that I had registered that name. Not that it matters very much - it is quite unimportant.

Is the game in any way like Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire? It occurred to me that there is a similar choice of conditions for victory and a technology tree and a space theme. Neither of the two games I have mentioned will run on XP, but I remembered them with pleasure.

Yes in a way Galciv is like those games. Both of which are still my favorite games of all times. I played it to death and they did make a patch to allow it to run on XP. I installed it a few months ago and played it again for a few months.

The one thing that is different is the graphics and some diplomacy options are missing. Mainly the one where you can plan on attacks jointly and being able to enter your allies bases for healing and protection.

I plan to setup forums for SMAC/SMACX at my website. They should have made a sequel to this great classic game.

I've setup my account on Metaverse and have been able to login to it with no problem. I finished my first game last night and after entering the account name, submitted the game. Nothing seemed to happen and I was eventually returned to the "startup" menu. As of this evening the submitted game does not appear. When I search on the account name it comes back there are no scores submitted. What am I doing wrong?

#43  by Senator Drengin - 10/12/2004 6:42:13 PM

When submitting make sure you use the email address you registered your player with.

Balok you need to go to > http://www.galciv.com/playerreg.asp and register your player using your player name and serial number. That will open your user account in the metaverse. Ensure that you use your @exicite.com email address & player name  Balok Bala Kan. try resubmitting the end game save using these details. If that doesnt work email CariElf at cbegle@stardock.com who will help you out (if you ask nicely )

If you need any asistance other than this feel free to drop me an email and i will try to assist > Email

Has anyone else tried using the Galactic Civilizations initial menu with their default browser set to the new Mozilla FireFox rather than IE? When I set FireFox as the default, none the only item that works is the one to launch the game. The Metaverse, Encyclopedia, etc, no longer do anything. If I set IE as the default, everything works fine.

The Following maps for custom maps in Altarian Prophesy, Galactic Civilization I's Expansion; I did not make but however they seem to be there by default.

Huge Primal
7 player Citadel
Gigantic Balanced
Large Primal
Medium Balanced
Small Balanced
Tiny Balanced
Top And Bottom

my question is, are they metaverse submittable?
And Who made them?
Are there any special penalties for playing these maps if you devolop a taste for a certain one?

Hey, I just picked up the Deluxe Edition and I have some very elementary questions... so elementary that it will defy the standard mantra that "there's no such thing as a stupid question".

Ahem.

1. Can you move ships diagonal? (yikes, now THAT is a stupid question).

2. Given that I've got the Deluxe (original game plus expansion), should I be playing immediately with the expansion or am I better served playing the original game as I learn this puppy?

Much appreciated.
