Every time I play galactic civilisations, i end up getting war declared on me. how can i stop it?

Either you need to be strong enough (military and economic is evaluated) or give them gifts (techs, money) when they become wary until your relationship gets better.

thanks for that, but i dont live long enough for either of those to happen. Is'nt there something i can do at the race relation screen or is there some kind of mod that stops war?

I guess you need some more experience to master the game. Either you reduce your difficulty level in the game and try to find out by yourself, or you study some strategy threads and FAQs

These badges are for Metaverse activities. The first one is the emblem of my empire, the other ones can be found here http://www.galciv1.com/metaverse/legend.asp Link

On the screen where you choose the AI opponents you can select the intelligence level for each AI.

To defend yourself establish many colonies early on. I can't do this. I'm a researcher. If you want to try to be a scientist then I would advise using propulsion early to get transports and pick on small civs, then researching frigate/battleships. This works only for early in the game and on a dificulty max of normal, great to start with.

Wouldn't that eat up all your money?

No, not in GC1 as long your colonies have a PQ >= 15.

It helps a lot with research but slows down building of wonders and trade goods.

To neutralize this problem a bit I build manufacturing improvements like Fusion Power Plant etc. exclusively on Earth and one or two other high PQ planets.

Another disadvantage of a high number of colonies is your vulnerability in case of war until you get a decent military power. I try to stay out of war to keep my empire growing. This can be hard sometimes since you have to give a decent amount of gifts, but it pays off in the long term. Good research and diplomacy it key for this strategy.

you should use star bases on cultural resourses

Terror star is my favourite because you can move the resourse with you!
