Well my soon-to-be acquired lilac or chocolate Burmese puss is going to be named CariElf and I don't care who knows. CariElf may be woman or man, but it doesn't matter. At the end of the day, when you have posted a problem and up pops CariElf with some breezy advice, or a "I'll look into it" you know that everything is gonna be alright. CariElf brings a human face and good cheer to the otherwise faceless computer geeks of Galciv. I just wish I had a Galciv problem at the moment... I'm proud to be a CariElf fan and apparently Vice President of the CariElf Online Fan Club.

*lol* Quite a good laugh ... I'm not the fan-club sort of person, but I agree and appreciate that CariElf is doing a fantastic job

Any person who has to deal with software users directly certainly deserves either some compassion, praise, or prosaic.

I'd like to think I'm a nice geek too (even if I'm overly direct sometimes *cough* trade goods situation *cough*)

I happen to be a programmer myself, so Cari definitely deserves to accolades for what she goes through in a day. How many programmers will get in email contact with you concerning a game play situation. That is one area Stardock will always receive credit for in my department (even if I have my share of disagreements with a couple people on the board)

I might be called an hereric and hunted down, but I think I have to tell you my theory about the identidy of CariElf: It's an AI.

When Stardock made this forum, they were looking for one among them who'd take the job of dealing all day long with the complaints and demants of ungrateful geeks - well, for some reason, nobody wanted the job.
Then some underpaid intern said:
"Well... you know... we made this incredible AI for the game. And the AI is used to do diplomacy and stuff... so why don't you let the AI handle the whole thing?"
Everybody agreed that this was a great idea, and thankful as they were, they made the underpaid intern (whose name was something Wardell) their new CEO.
Then they set up the AI to deal with the geeks and named it 'CariElf'.
CariElf is trying to ally with the geeks (minor races in her opinion) to get the diplomatic power to get rid off Frogboy Wardell and thus conquer the Stardock-Galaxy.

Yellow Sign: Ahhh.... That has a certain twisted logic which means it must be true. In which case CariElf wouldn't actually "like" anyone per se (sorry MM77). She/he/it is programmed to respond in a certain cheery way, to apparent Galciv problems, but has no other EMOTIONAL commitment to the particular players. Now that's sad. CariElf say it isn't so...

Let me see, it's not often I'm inspired to poetry (but as only CariElf fans are reading this...)

Once upon a midnight dreary,
while I pondered on Galciv, weak and weary-

No that's not quite the right tone... How about:

She was a phantom of delight
When first she gleamed upon my sight;
A lovely appirition, sent
To be a moment's ornament.
Her eyes as stars of twilight fair,
Like twilight's too her dusky hair;
But all things else about her drawn
From Galciv and the cheerful Stardock.

Hmmm. May need a bit of work on the last line, but it's getting there.

Well, let me see what I would want if I had to handle software tech support (which I do not, fortunately):

1. People try to solve their own problems and get their own answers by doing at least some attempt at research first.

2. If there is a real bug or a real issue that the user cannot handle, hope for patient people who give the support person time to find out what the problem is and to respond to the issue.

3. That people have patience and understanding when trying to describe the problem. I know that if it is a game you have worked on for a week and it crashes at practically the very end you are going to be distressed, but do not take it out upon the person who can actually help you with the problem.

4. That the people up higher in the chain of command recognize when users are flooding the support people with valid bug issues and try to control the situation from the top. A little support from management helps when the front line people are the ones who take the most flak first.

5. In a perfect dream world, a can of bug repellent that would instantly fix serious software and account problems within seconds.

Perhaps the Lady of Honor herself will print her own wish list? Who knows, with a fan club, some of her wishes may be respected!

BoogieBac, I am HONERED to have a reply from you.

This is the first time I've seen you on the board.
I was going to make the STARDOCK fan club starring SCOTT & COMP. BUT I think " Yellow Sign " may be RIGHT!
CariElf, is just to GOOD to be TRUE! When I see her name on the board forget it! I'm HELPLESS!

It was all I could do to put your name in the INTRO.

forceinfinity,

YOU just made RULE #8 ENVY is a MUST.

Are you trying to take over MY JOB!

Chistoper Packer,

Chistoper, Chistoper, Chistoper. MY poem CLEARLY spells out CariElf BETTER then YOURS.

#21  by Veteran MM77 - 6/1/2003 5:25:05 AM

Gerakken,

Be CARFUL what you say, CariElf may show up and my HEART might STOP. And that would make CHISTOPER PACKER the new PRESIDENT!

#22  by Veteran Killa Koala - 6/1/2003 9:18:00 AM

Now, now, MM77. I was actually inspired by Wordsworth. But I think perhaps you are right and your verse does capture the moment. Gerakken has some very good points too.
