Actually, I should explain that Draginol thing a bit further, vincible. I had a game saved the turn before Draginol took over the system. I tried many, many things to deter the takeover (trying to stop the CTD) and everytime I reloaded (restarted), Draginol appeared the next turn. It wasn't until I rushed a colony ship and had it auto-launch, emptying the system of population, that the Draginol event didn't occur. I guess I just linked the loss of population to the reason the event didn't take place.

Ah, makes sense now.

#927  by Citizen Greldon - 12/16/2003 12:15:30 PM

I believe the Draginol will not take over a system unless there is at least a certain percentage of population on it

I had evacuated the entire population when they took over my system so I think it just takes several months for them to appear. I think this will happen regardless of the system population.

1.13 is up!

I can't wait to get home!!!

#930  by Citizen Matthew Downie - 12/16/2003 3:45:35 PM

It is? I don't see it.

“Downie? Where are you going?” said Theoden, upon seeing Downie packing his two possessions (a war-harp and a small bag of money) into a small suitcase.
“Pronounced that way, Downie is Quenya for ‘horse’s rear’,” replied the elf.
“Sorry, I meant ‘DOWnie’.”
“That’s the Sindarin word for ‘insurance salesman’, an insult punishable by death.”
“OK, Joe-Bob...”
“Try ‘Matthew’,” said Downie. “That’s a name I sometimes use when I go amongst humans.”
“Anyway, where are you going? We have to prepare for war!”
“As in the old saying, ‘If you want peace, prepare for war’?”
“Yes, except that in this case we want a war,” said Theoden, grinning apologetically.
“I don’t want to be involved in a war! Someone might get hurt!”
“But you voted for it!”
“That was an ironic vote. No-one gets my Elvish sense of humour.”
“Are you just going to run away then?”
“No. I have a sacred duty to perform.”
“Really? What?”
“It is one of the obligations of my people. It is not a matter to be discussed among mortal men.”
“Oh, come on. After all we’ve been through together? I won’t tell!”
“Huh. Well, just this once. After all, if you can’t trust a tabloid journalist, who can you trust? It is my time to serve as an agent of the Great Northen Magus.”
“Should I have heard of him?”
“He belongs to the most ancient race of men, the Maiar. Without him, you and all your kind would now be dead.”
“Really?”
“He is the one upon whom the seasons turn. When midwinter comes, that is when Man is at his lowest ebb. When the heart aches and the soul despairs, that is when the Great Darkness can rise to conquer all. And so, every year, the magus performs a potent ritual, a ritual to bring joy to those struck down by cold and misery. He returns the light to people’s hearts, and it is this light that calls back the light of the sun. If the ceremony ever failed, the sun would drift away forever and winter would reign without end, until the air itself turned to ice.”
“And what does this ritual entail?” said Theoden, wide-eyed.
“There must be feasting and there must be singing. There must be laughter and the giving of gifts. Above all, there must be the joy of children. And so, once a year, the chosen elves are gathered together in a secret workshop, in a hidden valley in the frozen North, to make toys. And the magus Santænoєl, through mighty magics, delivers these toys to all the good children of the world in a single night…”
“Ah, there you are,” said a hobbit, bursting in on them. “I got your tickets.”
“Not now!” hissed Downie.
“Won’t take a minute. Two weeks at a luxury surf resort in the ANZAC Imperium, I think it was? Can’t say I blame you! I hear it’s sunny there, all through winter!”

Congrats on the promotionm Theoden. All you now need to do is to decide which vice you are admiral of.

Ray - Thanks for the correction in the Bug thread. That was my assumptiono many t, although it seemed weird that so many techs that I normally grab were unavailable...

Therefore I have the following question:

If you slip-slide around with your alignment you can pick up all the techs... or is it current alignment at the moment you start research of any given tech that counts? My usual game is one were I drop to evil rather quickly and then claw my way back to good before the game ends, how does this affect research?

WalkerintheMist,

Yes, you can basically pick up every single alignment tech by changing your alignment over the course of the game. However, it gets really tedious to get both Galactic Pacifism and Domination as they are right at the end of the tech tree and they have 10 and 90 alignment requirements.

If you are asking about a situation where you move your alignment beyond the threshold while still researching an alignment tech (eg, alignment drops to 69 while researching Hyper Warp), I didn't really take note. I suppose your research gets dropped.

Thank you again for the quick reply, I'll be a bit more observant next time, and maybe I'll spot something myself that answers these questions.

Let me know if you spot anything, Walker.

The problem I have with alignment techs is that I noticed that AIs get to build trade centres once the human researches The Better Way.

No mention that it has being fixed. I haven't had the chance to check this again as I've not been Pure Good for a while.

I have also seen research centers already built on planets flipping to me despite the fact that I am the only empire with Terracomputers. It looks like the routine to check what to build next is, hum, faulty.

Interesting. I thought the problem was only with alignment techs.

Do you have a save of that, JaxomCA? You could send that to Cari to support a bug report.

#940  by Citizen JaxomCA - 12/17/2003 4:49:04 AM

Nope, no save at the right moment but I'll make sure to make one the next time I notice this.

The "Sharing Technologies" UP bug seems like a major one if it forces a reboot, JaxomCA.

I wonder if we can just delete that UP event until Stardock fixes it.

Good morning, everyone!

First, I'm happy to report that Stardock has fixed my profile picture which I have been unable to do. Something is wrong with my account over at wincustomize.com, so that was the only way to do it. Thanks again, Patrick Ford!

I downloaded 1.13 last night and played a little, though not much. Nothing crashed so I'm happy so far! Real life is kicking my donkey lately and I'm lucky to have enough time to play a few turns. This is going to change very soon, however. My wife and daughter are going to the doctor today and by God, they better get something to fix them up!

Oh, looky...more snow falling. When I was a kid, I loved snow because it got me out of school and I could play in it. Now that I'm an adult, I hate snow. The white crap just means terrible traffic, shoveling, and muddy floors.

Hmmm...enough complaining! Hope everybody has a great day!

Can you guys go over to this http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GS&id=113136#117385 Link (it's the How to Beat Maso with Only One Planet thread from the Strategy forum)?

Something really weird has been reported and I'm not sure what to think of it.

Yes, very nasty. I think deleting this issue would solve it for now. I won't miss it since it usually favors the player, not the AI.

I'm pretty sure the computer uses your (Governor Ford's) build queue.

I played a little 1.13 last night, too. My impression was that it was significantly harder, but since it was just a fraction of one game it could easily have been luck. The AI beat me to several wonders that I usually get, and seemed to be teching faster. But Stardock says nothing was changed, so it's probably just coincidence.

I saw ROTK last night! It was great--the best of the series imo.

I'm gonna hold off on 1.13 Once I'm sure it's less buggy than what I have, I'll go with it.

Stopped by to say Merry Christmas. It's time for the annual orgy of 24/7 football (American style) known as the bowl season......
Football (euro style) is far more enjoyable played than watched.
Although come to think of it, American style is far more enjoyable watched than played. A 350 pound lineman ripping into my exposed ribs from the side with 4.8 speed with a crash helmet as a weapon doesn't sound all that appealing.

#948  by Veteran Theoden of Rohan - 12/17/2003 2:59:27 PM

And Merry Christmas to you, Pontius! Looking forward to the bowls. Go Cavaliers! Beat Pitt!

I actually don't mind watching the World Cup, but I enjoyed playing soccer very much as well.

I am also looking forward to the bowl games. Go Oregon Ducks and go Oregon State Beavers.

Theoden congrats on vice-admiral. Also congrats to others with recent promotions. Welcome to those who recently joined FotR.

Smeagol, it looks like you got your points back. Hope everything is worked out.
