Well, it seems I got my Crippling medal.
Would have loved that Ex-No 1 medal though.

| Terl decided that he may use the new Sartre Missile, you know, the one of the "doesn't matter class" |
|
Hello Terl. This sounds quite an evil weapon: I guess it bores enemy troops to death (although I usually get laballed as leftist, I'm not very fond of Sartre).
I couldn't play very much this week end(an optimistic way of saying not at all, I just thought/imagined my game). And now, I'm back at work But I'm thinking about starting a painful/ huge or gigantic game. I read one of Sirian's AAR and the galaxy does look impressive. I just don't know if I wait for AP before starting or do it right away... I guess it will depend on how tired I am after work... I've never tried that big games, because I'm afraid it would take too long... For a first time, should I go common, rare or uncommon habitable planets?
Goodbye Shalom. Btw, I did not have the feeling that anyone was mad at you, at least in here.

I don't know if bores is a good way to describe it. It is if the weapon discharged his writings and troops were forced to read them . I guess I envision the weapon creating a sense of apathy in the troops, one in which they really don't care what happens because there is no one to care anyway. BTW, leftist does not mean one would value Sartre by definition. After witnessing events as he did I can see why he developed his philosophy.

I am no expert by any means, but yes, I found after playing one huge map that they do take longer. I started a gigantic out of curiosity but stopped. I would rather post smaller games more often I guess. Just a personal preference.

This is a good question that I hope others would chime in on as I have only played loose/scattered and common. Are less common easier or more challenging?

I didn't get to do much either as we had quite the nasty cold snap and I had to get pipes thawed. We had no running water for a couple days. It is amazing to realize how much water you do use when you have to pour it from gallon jugs. All fixed now though...
I was happy to hear from you Nastavnik. I, too, am back at work . Alas, they just do not understand the needs of the galaxy...

Yes. I guess you're right. But, for what I remember of it (it was a long time ago, well, not so long, I'm not very old ), I could not agree. Although, like almost everyone else, from time to time he did say some worthy things: "l'enfer, c'est les autres" (which means "Hell --the place-- is the others", actually an interesting point of view)

Yes, I saw your post. Glad it's all back to normal. I just saw in CNN yesterday that it was really freezing over there (I'm assuming you're in the US). There was a short article to help describe the situation:
"Tandis que dans le New Hampshire, du côté du Mont Washington, la température a plongé si radicalement que les employés d'une usine de glace, Laconia Ice, ont dû se réfugier dans une pièce bien plus "chaude" : l'unité réfrigérée de l'entreprise, maintenue à -9° C."
To summarize it, it says that temperatures dropped so fast and so low in New Hampshire that the employes of Laconia Ice (ice cream (?) manufacturer) had to take refuge in a "warmer" room, and locked themselves in the their cold storedge room, which was "only" at -9°C
In order to help you cope with the cold (and other in your situation) let me tell you this(I saw it in russian TV when I went there with my wife for the new year, 2 years ago): int hte TV news there, they reported that somewhere in Siberia (forgot where, one of those villages that formerly wouldn't be in maps for security reasons, or something) there was a big flood, and water rose about 2 meters, leaving everyhouse with 1.5 meters of water in their ground floor. Unfortunatelly for them, there was a cold front coming. Since temperatures were below -30°C, the water froze! The journalists were reporting from inside a house, and we could see the living room entirely trapped in ice, more than 1 meter! Sofa, tables, TV, everything in ice. His conclusion was that these people were looking forward for the spring (I'll bet they were) when the ice would melt, in just a few months!!!
Getting back to Galciv: thanks for your thoughts on my incoming game. I'm curius to try hoping to quietly develop in a faraway location, hopefylly out of range for a while. But I cannot imagine finishing it in less than a week.
I've got to go back to work for a while: the government wants to start selling the parisian airports to the private sector, and my job is to try to explain to its employees just how they're going to be eaten --raw-- (it's a french expression, I'm not sure how to translate it, but I'm sure you get the idea). Probably many strikes in the near future. (and even more than that since they want to do the same thing to EDF, which produces electrecity: california and Italy, here we come --- aaaiiii, just bumped my head by walking in the dark ! )

Good morning, everybody!
I was busy last night, so no GalCiv for me. Hopefully I can get something in tonight!
Thanks for the congrats, Greldon! I can't believe I'm still in the top 25! I see they have introduced some of the new medals and they are a bit buggy. I'm sure they will get things straightened out soon. Ray, great job on getting your Crippling medal! Might I ask how you went from Challenging to Crippling? Did you talk to Stardock? Or did they just finally figure out how to average the difficulty better?
Nastavnik: For a first-time Gigantic map, I'd certainly go something less than common, say Uncommon or Occasional. Rare might make the game a little slow, but if you go Common or above, the AI will out-colonize you and you might find the game really hard! By the way, that was a really interesting story about the Siberian town. I can't imagine a house trapped in ice!
It's going to be a busy day at work today. Hopefully, I'll be able to sneak in here a few times!

I just completed my previous post while you wrote yours.
| Not barbecue sauce! For goodness sake, I have been to Paris a few times. Use some of the delicious French sauces with lots of cream and butter. Yummy!! |
|
Well, I know the sauces with lots of french cheese, but those cheese smell so bad I thought it would be really evil to put them in it...
Anyway, I shouldn't make it too confortable for them: after all the're the ones being eaten!
And, if you liked Paris, I promise you you will like Leningrad. The cold put aside (quite hard to do I know ) it is a magnificent city. It can remember you of Paris (the style of some of the old buildings), it has huge museums, many bridges. And many canals (I'm not sure it's english). The city is a mix of Paris and venice, or amsterdam. And those incredible orthodoxs cathedrals (and I am not a believer, but God! they're beautiful). And so many things happened there too. I am waiting for the opportunity (i.e. money) to go there again...

I did absolutely nothing, Theoden. It just appeared.
And when were you a top25 player, Nastavik?

Maybe they are doing a recalc, then...I've noticed several people who now have Maso shields. Apparently they have fixed the averaging formula!!

I think the Former Top 25 medal is a little buggy. Several people have commented on it in the New Metaverse Medals thread.
But, you deserve it, Nastavnik!!
