| I sure do not want less people playing I want to see more people playing. Sorry you got the wrong impression. |
|
I know that this specific comment wasn't directed at me, but since I disagreed with your earlier post on this topic, I would like to respond here. I don't think anyone was saying that you wanted less people playing. I recognize that you are offering your opinion, and the opinion of others to help improve the game for all of us and I applaude you for it.
| I know from being co-owner of CDG website and my own now that some new players are discouraged from submitting scores to the Metaverse because some of the Empires will never be push out of the top ranks. (unless they all quit playing) |
|
It is quite true that the Guardians have an amazing lead right now. Our empire is only seven months old. We were very lucky in the people that we attracted, both veterans and new players. The Diplomats who are in second place also are only about nine months old. The number one player joined them only about two months ago, and he did so because he was searching for an active empire. As for individual players, I can tell you that I have already passed the players that were in first and second place when I joined the meta at the end of Feb 2004. The meta is constructed with a component of "what have you done for me lately" built in.
Sorry for how long this is getting, but I offer this in hopes that it can encourage you and the others of your empire and your website to submit games and participate. Your own empire's emperor, Qwerk, has said elsewere that slow and steady wins the game. If you are looking to take number one in a month, that won't happen without recruiting multiple top ten players away from other empires. But Aldarians were down around where Star Fleet was a few months ago, and without much recruiting they have advanced rather nicely with only three or four active players working on it. Success breeds success. Show you are successful and active (and having fun!) by submitting games and chatting here and in your empire's forum and the players and positions should follow. And even if you don't achieve first place, you will have fun doing it.
And yes, it is the nature of a mature game that many do quit playing, even in the top empires. That's how GG managed to pass Special Forces so quickly. Will you be the empire to snag the Guardians when they sleep?
Please accept this in the spirit it was meant. I want to encourage anyone still here to play and submit games and participate in the forums and empires. I am not trying to criticize you Desert Fox. Rather, I am encouraged that you are trying, like most of us still remaining, to make the metaverse a better place for all of us, veteran and new player alike.

Well said GH.

| many who are at the top did so by playing the game before it was released to the public |
|
Are you sure? GalCiv's been out for ages now, and it's not like year-old scores are worth anything much.
| |
|
| The top players are so far in the lead it would be impossible to take them out. |
|
| . I only was thinking of new players, and many who are at the top did so by playing the game before it was released to the public. |

Well, Galciv was released in frebuary 2003, the metaverse was available in mars 2003 and the metaverse became the masoverse when maso was the only way to get the Cap score of 60K Mpts.
We have (1st date is the first submission, 2nd date the 1st maso submission, 1st 50K or more games) for the millionnaire club:
1: technician - 03/21/03 - 1/25/04 - 2/27/04
2: Greldon - 11/22/03 - 12/23/03 - 12/27/03
3: Weyrleader - 11/19/03 - 4/19/2004 - 4/19/04
4: Naqmir - 8/7/03 - 2/9/04 - 2/28/04
5: Jackey Jackey - 8/17/2003 - 11/28/03 - 2/10/04
6: ricbayer - 6/25/03 - 9/24/03 - 10/15/03
7: Exalted druid - 3/13/04 - 4/17/04 - 4/23/04
8: Mangnumaniac - 2/5/04 - 3/8/04 - 3/13/04
9: Mooser the Alchemist - 1/9/04 - 2/16/04 -3/14/04
10: Jaxom CA - 10/12/03 - 11/3/03 - 11/10/03
11: Primipilus alexus - 7/13/03 - 2/8/04 - 2/8/04
12: Wulfer - 9/21/03 - 10/5/03 - 3/13/04
13: Captain Jack Sparrow - 4/30/03 - 9/16/03 - 10/3/03
And in this list, some should have lost points due to inactivity.
And unless I am mistaken, the 60K cap was introduced in version 1.11 or 1.12, released near november 2003. And due to nature of metaverse calculation, it is better to submit few high scoring games than lots of low scoring games. To get the same a 60K game, you need 4 * 30K games or 9 * 20K games or 16 * 15 K games.

|
Don't forget the introduction of Altarian Prophecy. That made it possible for players like Technician to get 60K scores in Alliance victories in an hour or two, creating yet more score inflation and helping AP players catch up with those who had previously enjoyed a big lead.

There is so much dead wood on the lists it really is not that difficult for a player to move up. My original, ultimate goal was to reach page 2 and doubted I would ever do that. Only took a few months to get there. Also when I joined the Guardians they had a very small membership and I think about 5th in the standings. Now a few months later it appears our first place lead is insurmountable. I'm sure past 1st place empires look as strong as us at some point.
I think they should have an active and inactive player designation on the lists and allow you to filter out the inactive players so you can see where you stand against people playing the game now. Not some guy who has not submitted a game in 6 months. Way more intersting to compare yourself to people who are active and you can banter with in the posts.
