I downloaded GalCiv 1.21 today and the game hangs when I try to load a saved game. I thought maybe it was because the game was saved before I upgraded GalCiv, but then I started a new game and saved it with GalCiv 1.21 and the game hangs when I try loading the saved game. I can start a new game, but cannot load a saved game. I am running the game on a 1.2 GHz processor with 512 Meg of RAM and a 128 MB Video Card. I have never had any video or sound issues.
The reason I loaded the updtaed version was because my screensaver causes the game to crash with GalCiv 1.0.
What do you think the issue is?

If you have passed from Galciv 1.0 to Galciv 1.21a, the savegame are clearly incompatible.
Have you tried to delete all data linked with savegames? Maybe the problem is linked with the fact that savegame in the old format still exists in ypur savegame directory.

Yes, delete any subfolders in your savedgames directory and that will probably fix it.

Ok, thanks. The only reason I upgraded was to see if it would fix the crash caused by a screensaver popping up while the game is still running. If I don't participate in the Metaverse is there any benefit to the upgrade?

Well, there was lots of tweaks, bug fixes, loopholes closed and improvements (like some hyperlink in diplomacy screen and the tech navigator) from 1.0 to 1.21
take a look here Link

Blade777, when the screensaver pops up, does it leave Gal Civ out of focus for a long time? It doesn't seem to like that and I don't know why.

I am kicking around buying the expansion. Its a toss up between this and HL2. Dilima.

I wouldn't even consider HL2 right now with all the howling about the Steam mess. Seems many people can't register their copies through Steam because the servers have been overloaded, and if you don't register you don't play. A lot of people are pissed.
