We prefer cheese. You start game. Save game. enble cheats take a look. load save

What isn't said here is that when you reload, the cheat button is turn off, so cheats are not used during the playing of the game, only to get a peak at it before you start.

There apparenly is a way to do this without going through this process, but it is a tightly held secret by those who know how to do it.

I wonder if you could give everyone stellar coligraphy through a mod or something. That would make it fair.

Thanks Tech!

I bought the game about 6 weeks ago and usually play on normal or challenging. Today I got my first MASO win which was also one of my fastest games ever as well.

It really depends on your "diplomacy" rating. But, you should be able to brive them with a tech each three turns, or 10 bc for 50 turns and that will keep them at least neutral if not move them to friendly.

I was using Research, Inc, but not the extra diplomacy picks. When the Korx started to turn on me I tried bribing them, but started getting the "Oh, more presents" response that doesn't improve the situation. Maybe my diplomacy wasn't high enough or I wasn't giving good enough techs. Didn't try the monetary bribe, maybe that would have done it.

Oh, more presents

You get this response when you try to give them something too soon after the previous gift. You have to wait 3 monhts after you gift them to gift them again or you will get the message above (unless you are friendly and then they will usually take something anytime you want to give it to them)

You can bribe every 3 turns. Did you have the diplomatic translator If you did not get it youself be sure to trade for it as soon as you can.

Ok I've played 2 maso games now and both times the Drengin really dominated the galaxy. This last time the rest of us had to gang up and squash them for a victory (they would not ally).

Do the Drengin and Altarian empires consistantly do well at this difficulty?

Re: "more presents" - ok, thanks. I thought I had waited more than 3 months, but maybe not. And yes, I had the Diplomatic Translators, I always go for those ASAP.

I've been submitting tiny maso military (cultural flip) games for quite a while now, but I just submitted my first gigantic maso alliance win using this strategy. I'm not planning to grind out games like those of you on the top of the Metaverse, but I thought it was interesting trying out the strategy.

Thanks to all of you who answered my questions!

it would be cool if the scoring system took into acount the quality of your starting position and such. congrats 2 all who have mastered the game but i can't help but think that the ability to get such a high score so easily is something of a flaw in the game. i have refused 2 read the majority of the directions but now i see how its possible.

ok....cool....but one question....

after u win like this a couple or three times (once 4 me), how can u possibly enjoy doing it several times more a day?!!! or a week? or like ever? i hope its all 4 the empire! i'm reminded of the comment the researcher makes when u find nothing upon investigating a junk anomaly.

I'm still using the same strategy that use to take me over an hour to play. I just do everything quicker now. Every game is different, I take everythng that happens. If a random event puts me in war, I fight it out. I don't have savegames on and I always play through whatever happens or how bleak it looks. If a game goes perfectly, which it rarely does, then I'm excited about the time. Basicly the only thing I do better now is click turn faster as I know whats happening at all times. I read one word on a popup and understand it.

Once you establish a pace you have to maintain it or your score goes down. I started to play the pace for the empire and until I quit I will maintain it. It was very competitive and busy when I started and I did my best to help.

I don't know if I would do it again this way, but the idea of the meta was all new to me at the time and I have never had so much fun with a team or a game.

Other games once I win at the highest level a couple of times I move on, but here the Meta kept me playing.

an idea - maybe they could do something to ignore time spent saving game for scoring purposes - ok - that does not make much sense.

question about metaverse.

is there something that allows u to download people's playing styles and if so would it not be a bad idea to down load one of these games? or am i just crazy?

How fast you play does not effect score. Difficulty level, number of opposition, and victory condition do. I increase my score by achieving wonders and trade goods. To lesser degree techs you research yourself help your score but ones you trade for don't, I have
read.

You know if you click on a persons nick name it gaves you the game info as far as, morality, galaxy size, difficulty and winning/losing condition

Is there something that tells the "cost" of technology? I usually stay to a standard line that will give me the the techs I want and alot of stuff to trade with. It would be nice to know how much I am paying for it other than just in months.

Technician has a good one that you can vary so you can play military or cultural instead of alliance. You can also look under the strategies part of the forum, which is how many of us learned.

A fun thing about Gal Civ is you can win several different ways and get random maps. You can play campaigns if you choose. You can also play empires and metaverse, which is unique. I don't play as fast as some but there are enough good things about Gal Civ that I have played GC and AP longer than any computer game in the last 20 years.

The metaverse is not for everyone. If you look at the top 25 players, they play many games, and have from 60 to over 1000 recorded. It took me about 50 to 100 games to get comfortable playing all the strategies on all the map sizes at all difficulty levels, so hang in there if you don't pump out 60k games right away.

Another things is you don't need sound to play. I play the game and listen to music. Some particulary great passages of music, I stop playing and just listen. You are not going get in extra games that way but you may play for months longer. Don't forget to have fun.

Hi Tech et al.

which morality do you choose for the AI?

#41  by Citizen Walldorf2000 - 1/31/2005 3:42:13 AM

I just submitted a alliance win. In Jan 2190 I allied with all 5 AI. But the score was only about 38k on a hugh map with rare/tight( .

All AI were set to incredible, two on evil and three on good. I had several trade goods and wonders and was leading by tech and population.

What went wrong? Do you need Altarian Prophecy to get 60k on hught/rare, or do I need to ally before January?

Do you need Altarian Prophecy to get 60k on hught/rare

Yes.

If you have only Galciv, you can get near 55K on gigantic maso alliance win if you are able to build lots of trade goods (you gain something like 250 Mpts for each TG built). Just look at my record

Yes.

That's a sad thing. I would never order Altarian Prophecy to get the higher scores.

I'm just glad that my order is already on the way

It gives you higher scores because the extra races make the game more difficult. Only takes a few games to adjust to problems presented by the extra races though.

Which problems? My experience with alliance win is: more races is more options to trade and use diplomacy. In my opinion it would be harder to win against three majors than against five or seven.

Again the question: which morality do you give to the AI when you go for an alliance win?

#46  by Citizen Evil Druid - 1/31/2005 3:21:25 PM

If I recall I had difficulty adjusting to how crowded the map was at first and I play with minors on and rare so there is not much room for a super empire.

I play Nuetral to pure evil. 2 neutral 2 chaotic evil 3 pure evil.

I chose this because if I slip into evil myself, ther are no good guys to kill me just because I'm evil.

Diplomacy works as well on pure evil as anyone else so I see no down side to evil but the good guys will fight you on principle, but the bad guys have no principles. They are much more predictable.

Because I am forced to start at Neutral morality, I choose to set all AI at Neutral morality. I have never had a drop in score because of this, although I frequently have too few morality shifting events to get me to my desired "Pure Good" status by January of 2190. (And no, I have no plans to install the saints/sinners pack or any other morality shifting mods).

I have never had a drop in score because of this,

Try to play with all AI set to Evil. As it is a haredr setting, you should get more points. Unless you hit the 60K cap

#49  by Citizen PassingBye - 2/1/2005 8:13:04 AM

I play with the standard defaults of 2 pure evil, 2 pure good, one chaotic evil, one chaotic good, and one neutral. If the pure good get lots of planets, they are harder to ally with then the pure evil. I play neutral to pure good.
