Well, damn. I just got out of a meeting at work. Announcement of corporate-wide layoffs. What a great way to start the week. Doesn't look like I'm in danger, but you never know in this economy.

Hi, looks like everyone in the Fellowship is enjoying themselves. I'm glad to see it has matured further instead of falling apart - not that there were any signs of such. I've been fooling around with MUDs lately after a long hiatus. Enjoy yourselves.

Hey Cirrhosis, good to see you. Hope you're having fun.

Good to see ya Cirrhosis! You're always welcome here in the Fellowship!

#2029  by Citizen DarkHobbit - 9/29/2003 2:41:11 PM

DarkHobbit lounges back in his comfortable hideout/den and sets aside his drink to place a com call.

"I was wondering what sorts of openings you have for a lazy pirate who really likes to just steal loot and spend it rather than all that violence and stuff. I really don't think I would be comfortable in one of those tiny fighters or corvettes and dreadnaughts are just so, well, nasty and bristling with weapons. I would prefer being stationed to a party palace actually. Any posts available?"

After listening to the response he goes rather pale.

"I didn't realize GROSS anti-matter missiles had pilots. While I am honored you thought of me for the position I am afraid I must decline. No, no. Not even as Missile Squadron Leader. Thanks for your time."

DarkHobbit finishes his drink and looks around his place, then gets up and changes into simple clothing. He sighs as he sets aside his neural stun baton and straps on his rusty shortsword. As an afterthought he kicks off his comfy slippers.

"Fellowship of the Ring? I heard you are looking for recruits to rule the galaxies...um...I mean to help others become all they can be in these dangerous times. I would like to join if I may. Is it really true that this Shire is so safe many neighbors don't even feel the need to lock their doors?"

Welcome, DarkHobbit!

You just pushed us over the 2 million mark!

#2031  by Citizen DarkHobbit - 9/29/2003 3:04:28 PM

Hrm. A Hobbit in the 13th rank in the Fellowship regular overlords. Seems like I may have read a book about this somewhere. Thanks for the welcome. Let's have a party and celebrate at the party palace or any comfy hobbit hole.

#2032  by Veteran Theoden of Rohan - 9/29/2003 3:09:52 PM

Theoden listens intently as a hobbit finishes his question.

"Is it really true that this Shire is so safe many neighbors don't even feel the need to lock their doors?" says the hobbit.

Theoden frowns a bit when he hears the question, but the need for good overlords is great. He stands and walks over to the newest member of the Fellowship.

"Welcome to the Fellowship, DarkHobbit. As I recall, nobody locks their doors, but I think our leader, Ray the Wanderer, wouldn't care much for theivery. I think you'll enjoy the spoils of war much better than the trinkets our Shirefolk keep around, however."

Hawaii-FiveO is a hobbit as well, though he seems to have been inactive the past few weeks.

#2034  by Citizen DarkHobbit - 9/29/2003 4:34:49 PM

DarkHobbit shakes his head and mutters, "They drag us off to miserable, dangerous places and tell us to burgle, then when we can do it in quiet and comfort they tell us not to. Even Bilbo had to practice sometime. I see he still attacks the helpless training pole with his axe even when nothing is swinging at him."

On a game note, I have seen the gigantic map in 1.1 is, well, really, really big and there is nothing like the warm, fuzzy feeling of telling your advisors, "No, dreadnaughts and avatars just don't project quite enough force. Cancel all those projects and only build Overlords or better."

Ray - congrats on 300,000! You got there so quickly, I don't have a story ready this time!

Welcome to the Fellowship, Dark Hobbit!

Rogue skills are highly valuable. I hear the gross pirates have lots of loot that requires liberation.

And congratulations to all in the Fellowship for the remarkable feat of achieving 2 MILLION metaverse points!

Here's a cheer for each of you.

Appreciate you dropping by, Cirrhosis. Have fun with MUDS too.

Didn't get into MUDS which was popular during my schooling days but heard how addictive it was. Want to tell us more about the ones you are playing? I'm interested in understanding its attraction.

Let's just say that Sauron was inspired to make the One Ring after seeing the power of MUDs.

I guess it's easy to exchange the drudgery of real life for the swashbuckling adventures in an imaginary world.

I think I will enjoy PBEM roleplaying more than MMORPG. There is no need to perform repetitive tasks just to level up.

Thanks Ray, vincible, Theoden. I'll return someday.

I'm currently involved with the MUD Realms of Despair. Of all the fantasy MUDs I've played it ranks high up there.

Gaaawd is Realms of Despair still going..

I used to play that one back in the late 90's..

#2042  by Citizen Cirrhosis - 9/30/2003 12:08:17 AM

Heh.

They revamped it, implemented new changes over a year or so with an event they called "The Shattering". And they took out Lizardmen. And introduced PKers. But they can only be bad guys and can only kill other players.

Don't trust the hobbit! He's after your gold.

This pirate sneak may as well drop in for a little visit. And no, they don't lock the doors. I should know. It is too easy to sneak around in here.

#2048  by Citizen WileyCoyote - 9/30/2003 5:09:44 PM

Hey guys,

maybe I missed the memo but what the heck happened to excalibur class ships?? I rarely tech up that high but was doing so in my last game just to get those ships. Got all the way to final frontier and nothing. Needless to say I was very disappointed

what gives?

#2049  by Veteran vincible - 9/30/2003 5:16:04 PM

Do you have the bonus pack, Wiley? They should be in there.

They're definitely in 1.10, I remember building some.
