Yeah... in hind sight it was. So is that the reason you left?

The result would have been the same either way. In fact, we're probably slightly less pancake-shaped than we otherwise would be because if not for the war I probably wouldn't have bothered to submit a game and add 30k to the empire score--but the euros would have steamrolled us regardless

Why didn't you put a motion to end the war in front of the Council?

#2012  by Citizen Arcilte - 12/21/2003 8:52:04 PM

Well what can we say but...

Good Luck Alex on your new Empire!

a motion to end the war

It was a "fait accompli" before I even knew there was a motion initially - and Mayito was having such fun....

the euros would have steamrolled us regardless

Maybe, maybe not - as I see it, the "war" encouraged them to do some serious recruiting and play a lot!

Good Luck Alex on your new Empire

Well looks like it is my fault that Alex left, so if the empire wants me out just let me know and I will step out without any hard feelings.

There is probably more to it than that, Mayo. It does sting though, losing the numbers, but we will just have to work harder.

I turned in two games yesterday. The first I won an alliance with only two systems! I felt proud of that one. Question on alliances though: If my ally goes to war a message asks if I will support him. I always say yes, but, is it saying yes that is important or does the game look for me to provide active support (I do that too, because I grab what he does not).

#2019  by Veteran Disciple777 - 12/22/2003 7:59:58 AM

You don't have to provide support, but like you said, you can just park your transports close to the planets being attacked and wait until they don't have defenses and invade them. Also if you uncheck the box for alliance victory at the beginning of the game, you can still ally with the AI's but the game will not end, you can use that opportunity to cultural bombard the AI and win the game by military conquest. I already submitted 2 games and have one right in the middle with 1 AI down and 3 to go.

Alex,

Good luck on your new empire! Very interesting qualifications...Veteran only or 100+ games played. Hope your exit from the Jedi remains amicable.

To all Jedi: I don't think Alex would do anything to you in animosity. As with all of us, he is free to choose his own destiny in the Metaverse. Whether that be the path of the Force or the path of the Centurion, it is ultimately up to him.

This will most certainly need to be reported in the Review!

Anyway my proposition stands, if anyone in the empire feels like the fall of our empire from 3rd to 5th is my fault and wishes for me to be out of the empire let me know and I will step out without any hard feelings.

cultural bombard the AI

I haven't quite figured this one out yet as to how to swing them culturally.

The first game, I was quite happy with the alliance victory. I had a horrible starting position (I always play what comes up) with just two planets in the top northwestern corner and nowhere else to go. I went mostly research and trade at that point.

The second game was also close. The Arceans were to my north and east and had grabbed some stuff near me. I almost lost one planet to them to cultural pressure, but I staved it off. I helped them against the Drengin. I traded with them and got some combat transports which I promptly parked around the Drengin planets. As the Arceans or I cleared the defenses I was able to get about half the planets.

It was funny in the second game as the Drengin were demanding tribute about every other turn later in the game. Then I got the message that the Arceans were going to war with the Drengin, so I joined in

The Arceans were quite strong near the end. I could have probably pulled off a conquest, but I don't mind the alliance win. I leave all the victory conditions on as to me a win is a win. I would rather have the option, as in the first game, to at least go for an alliance victory as the starting postition was horrible.

Not me if you are looking for votes We just have a bit longer road to go to get our position back. All the more reason to play more GalCiv
