same, except i dont start school till this monday.

i will have another game to submit shortly, however, i just relized the only way i will win this one is if i build a lot of terror stars first. i usually dont build them and instead opt to culture bomb everything, however this game is going nowhere with my previous strategy.

just submited my first crippling game -one thing i learned is that you cant culture bomb the AI's.
that was the first time i had to used a terror star in a long time, i had to practicaly destroy every AI planet with terror stars. by the time i relized that my usual culture bombing wasnt working, all the AIs had huge populations on all their planets -way to high to invade with troops, so i had to go with option B.

Oh yes you can, Hairy. But it's good to have a load of influence resources and TGs/wonders.

Ah, culture bombing is an art. The first general rule is to never try it in the same sector as an enemy colony. Doing that will run into trouble at even middle difficulty levels. Just go a sector away, and preferably in multiple adjacent sectors to bomb several related planets at once, and things may turn out quite well.
The best position to culture bomb is one where you own the most colonies. Every star system contributes overall influence to the empire that system belongs to. If an enemy has a numerical advantage in colonies, he will be harder to bomb, so take that advantage away until your empire has the most colonies. Once you have the advantage, press it with culture starbases and the appropriate technologies to amplify influence. Restaraunt of Eternity and Galactic Exhibition help a lot, and Historical Preserve is not half bad either. Culture bombing is mostly about constant pressure squeezing the aliens into submission over a long period of time. A "shock and awe' instant approach is very unlikely.
There are advantages in culture bombing over brute force. The first being that there need be no warfare. The second being able to take over the entire populace in one swoop rather than starting out with only the survivors of an invasion. It is a sad fact that all someone need do is turn off culture victory to go for a so-called military victory that is really a culture bomb in disguise in order to get higher score.
Ah, but such whining is for another day. For now, feel no shame in culture bombing all who lie in your path, using an occasional limited war along the way to get a dominant position. Afterall, which leaves more in the end: pounding an opponent utterly into the dust and getting nothing out of it, or convincing the alien that you own him already and he comes on over on his own accord?

do you think you can get a report of dead empires?
we wont be able to recruit from them, since no one would be active, however, it would give us an idea of what empires we can recruit from.

i was looking through the list of top players, and there are lots of active players with no empire in the 30,000 - 45,000 score range. to bad they dont read the forums or look at the empire line-ups
a lot of them i dont remember ever seeing their posts on here, so maybe they are using the newsgroup or some other forum?

| By the way, what defines a dead empire? |
|
Not to belittle the valiant efforts of the evil bakka, but I agree. Unless we know what the test is for determining life or death, there might be confusion. For example, Adventures Inc. is listed as dead when two of its three members submitted at least two games each in August. That seems quite alive to me, especially relative to a much larger empire like Apolyton who has so few active players for its size. So I suggest that some thought be given to what criteria are to be set for this test. Will it be percentage of total numbers, or a set number of actively scoring people? Will the "death limit" of a player's last submission be like a month, two months, a week, two weeks, what? Are there other factors that should be considered?
