by Veteran the 3rd child - 5/3/2004 1:30:58 AM

The Diplomats have been given the responsibility for the gal civ writer, we have a new beta v.1.4.0, we are looking for beta testers up to 20 from here and up to 20 at the main forum, if your intersested please post here you would like to beta test as well as under what name you would like to be given credit for testing, then email me at
galcivwriter@yahoo.com Email
put the words "Beta Test" in the subject line (without the quotes), we would like all beta testers to take screen captures (a picture of the error just the box please not your whole desktop, make sure it's readable) for errors they encounter, if you don't have any screen capture software, please go here to get it: http://www.snapfiles.com/download/dlhoversnap.html Link
,you must REMOVE THE OLD GALCIV WRITER ON YOUR COMPUTER if you have it, finally before you start up gal civ writer after installation you MUST make sure to go to start>run and enter this into the box: regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\GalCiv Writer\gvbox.ocx" (enter it exactly as you see with the quotations)
then click okay
or you will end up getting tons of errors, that we are aware of and give us many many useless error reports, please send all error reports to the same email listed above with the words Beta Test in the subject line (record all error reports on note pad, save them in .txt, or use something else and save them in rtf format, thank you for your cooperation, email any questions to that very same email.

PS: you will need .net framework 1.1 if you don't already have it go here to get it http://tinyurl.com/95zt Link

Made my first test on the 1.4 beta:
It appeares to be a bit slower then 1.3
It aways saves a new item after nameing it, so i keep getting an error because of a value 0 in the Dilplay name field.
Otherwise, nothing negative till now

thanks icho tolot i'll pass that along to slothrop, and i think you can turn the autosave function off, just remember any real errors make a capture of it and send it over.

Congrats to the Diplomats Empire for getting to the beta phase for version 1.4.

I have added a link to this thread, along with an explanation that I am no longer maintaining the Writer, to the GalCiv Writer home page.

Please send me an e-mail when you feel it should be best to take down the home page, to prevent confusion.

Thanks for keeping this project alive!

This is frustrating, everytime i edit an Improvement it changes the "pic" to the one i emailed you, AE and I need to repair it on my other computer with a 1.3 install.
Any idea why this happens?

actually 1.4 isn't the final release, with some of the data we've gleaned from the 1.0 series slothrop has gone ahead and created the alpha for 2.0 i'm currently alpha testing that, when the big problems have been dealt with it will be released as a beta to you guys to catch that stuff we miss, then unless he plans on doing a 3.0 it's ready for release

so the timeframe is rather unspecified at this time.

I would like to be a tester for you. I run the Galciv forums at CDG. There is a forum setup for Galciv Writer already if you care to visit there and use them. Hawaii-Five-O used it until he had no time to do much with the editor. Let me know I am back playing Galciv and the expansion.

ATTENTION! Beta Testers! i am about to release the newest version of galciv writer too you please have at least 4.5 MB of space in your inboxes open when you read this, i will be releasing it periodically throughout the day, multiple times if i encounter any bounced back messages, you must remember to do the following with this version:

From Slothrop:

The main feature that can be announced to the testers are that it is supposed to handle AP and the Mod directories, and that there is now a Mods Manager. Also, it uses zip files for archiving purposes and for creating mods.

Remember to remind everyone to backup the following 4 directories before testing v2.0.0-alpha6 ... just in case:

drengin.net\galciv\Data\
drengin.net\galciv\Mods\
drengin.net\AltarianProphecy\Data\
drengin.net\AltarianProphecy\Mods\

Your welcome that is what CDG was started for. To provide space to create your work without worrying about bandwidth issues with the free web space, and to not worry about money out of pocket. We have a few mods hosted now but most of the modding has dropped off. http://www.cdgroup.org/forums/tbs/gc/ Link

If someone needs a full website we have that covered starting at $5.00 a month or close to that for 500 megs I think it is. We make no cash on the hosting of websites we try to break even.

Pass the word around we do this for any game, or just about any game related project.

I still want to be a tester regardless I will be back to working on the Star Trek Mod ASAP. Need to use Galciv Writer although I do not have space for large files in my email, nothing past 3 megs is allowed by my ISP for some odd reason.

So how do i make it (the Editor) to see the mod folder. When i keep the set as it is it dont see it.
That data file editor sees it but the main editor don't.
And what's that mod manager about? since it appears to be not usable at the moment, i have to ask

Oh and the Info text at the standart ID always shows the this sets the Pol Party ID text

#24  by Veteran the 3rd child - 5/28/2004 4:50:21 PM

i believe if i udnerstand what your saying you click on browse and point it to your mod folder manually, and the mod manager i'm pretty sure it works...unless slothrop disabled it this version, and i'm not sure about your last question, could you restate it?
