Moser I posted all of this at my site. I love Galciv.com forums myself, but using these forums suck. Fansites that have regular forums are easier for keeping this stuff organized. Thanks wish we could get all this info in a better location!! (HINT)

I need to get back to this (probably after the holidays). I'm playing 4 different games concurrently and all my "play time" is being consumed.

Update on the Borg Cube graphic and my "learning curve."
I found a program at the store which is helping greatly. I bought Paint Shop Pro 9. It cost me $129. Not too bad, and I can certainly use it for other things, even if I later decide not to get serious with CG/AP modding. As it stands, it is clear a ship designer will need a seperate graphics program which will allow good control over png files. The ability to make certain parts of the picture transparent is important. I still need to learn this stuff about "Masks." Anyway, what I had to do was have an ordinary 64x64 bmp or jpg picture of my ship; then use Dark Rain's Ship Rotator program to make 32 pictures where the ship is shown slowly rotating on a black field. That is all stored as one long vertical picture file 64 bits wide. Next, I brought it into the graphic program and then exported the long picture or "Strip" out as a png file with the black area around my ship being converted to "Transparent." I next fired-up the Graphics Suite Tools, the Sprite Editor, and imported the "Strip" with the special feature function which divides the strip into 32 individual frames (since I create 32 shots of it rotating earlier, stored as a single vertically long picture). When done, I did some file renaming, and repacked the constructer ship mdl file with my new Borg Cube as the graphic for "default" with humans. In the game, my constructor ships now appear as Borg Cubes, lol... just for testing, or course. Earlier, I thought I had made a seperate mdl file when I really hadn't... I just made a changes to an existing file. That will be the next task: make a new mdl file of my ship, but I need two other graphics (the larger "Blue-Print" graphic of the ship and a tiny icon... I haven't made those yet).
BTW, the mods section gives some B5 ships for use in the game, but the work is incomplete. The files are in the raw form and never were packed into a seperate mdl file of thier own; a process beyond most people's abilties. I'll see if I can do something there so that the player need only down load the mdl, and then swap it out for an existing mdl, say containing the battleship graphic, whatever, depending on what the ship represents.
Heh, I also noticed in the ship mdl files that StarDock didn't add new ships designs and colors for the new races in AP... woops? There are 0 through 5 (six total) and "35" for minor AI players... so seven designs... I never paid attention too close in the game, but next time I will... I did notice some players had nearly the same player color (irritating too); due to this, perhaps?
Well, go to the link below, and get the constructor.mdl file. Copy to to your GC\gfx folder (save your original constructer mdl file first in a seperate folder)... run the game to see my little Borg Cube... hey, I'm still working on, it isn't "perfect" yet, lol.
