You need to download that from http://www.msn.com Link website. It is their XML code that is used in many different programs.

I didn't see a download link for framework or whatnot... is it shareware? Or do I need to buy it? Would COMPUSA have it?

I installed an earlier version of GCWriter... pretty cool, and it doesn't need the framework thing.

But the GCWriter does like to eliminate tech requirements in improvement files... is this normal? It's a pain to put those back... it apparently does something with IDs...trying to put them in order or renumber... not sure what it does.

I have a lot of mods installed which I got from here that apparently have some duplicate IDs. I was hoping the GCWriter would sort that out better than it did.

The problem in getting this straight are mods with mix categories in the same file. I'm thinking it would be easier to sort stuff if files by mod creators only contained wonders seperate of other stuff, then another file for achievements, etc. I'm trying to sort it manually now in note pad (arg).

.NET Framework is at windows update now sorry they moved it. It used to live there with the new 6.2 messenger. The new Alpha Galciv writer I think handles that dude. I am not certain though for sure.. U could ask Icho_Tolot about it at NeoTech or if he sees this post.

The problem is tha Achivements, Wonders and Trade goods are only special kinds of Improvements. Of cause an author could devide the files, but it would be a pain to do so (belive me, I made the mistake to try)

The Alpha writer has some advantages to the old one, like being able to see the basic GC and the AP folders PLUS the mod folders. Its also better at management of mods.

Let me ask this, does the program (the newest and/or the previous) try to deal with the IDs? When? Can I just "Write To File" without having made other changes? Is there a way to get it to "look" at all the tech files and improvement files and number the tech required IDs (and so forth) accordingly?

On seperating the catagories of improvements; heh, it would nice if in the same file they were not all mixed; and at least grouped AND number in an ascending numerical order... I started placing the number sequence in my own mod file names in case I decided to submit any for others or place them at my FTP site (e.g. 5000-5030Farscape.Tech or 150-180Farscape.Imp).

This is getting me a little absorbed, so I'll try to track down this netframe thing... I want to try this newer GCWriter (and inspite of some problems with it erasing some of the tech requirements: great thanks to the person that wrote it... it can come in handy if I continue to work with mods and learn the process better).

Thanks for the replies, BTW. Greatly appreciated!

Yep... I currently have to place my AP files in the GC data directory in order for the GCWriter to "see" them. The newer version will be a nice... to get away from having to do that.

Another question:

Does anyone know what might prevent a starbase from upgrading after using GCWriter?

The constuctor arrives, the menu pops up asking if I wish to upgrade and the appropriate upgrade options appear. I make the selection, the constructor moves onto the starbase and then nothing happens. Arg... I hope I can narrow the problem with some file swapping with know good files... but that might be hard if GCWrite changed some IDs around due to mods I downloaded... don't know.

Ok solved my previous question, never mind... I'd delete my OWN post, but apparently this forum is lacking in such standard and common editing abilties.

Indeed it is! One reason why I perfer a site like my own for dicussions. All the standard things should be added to Galciv forms.

Neotech have changed servers recently - might be part of the problem. If the authors want to email me a copy alex@alexrobertson.co.uk Email I'll put it on galciv.org too.....

I downloaded some sort of "Diplomat's Pack." Is that yours?

It needed the Net thing to work. After installing it, I get an error by it to refuse to run... something about a problem in a the Bin folder and file locations (couldn't fine "MSCOREE.DLL")... but it never gave me the option to state file loctions.

Any Ideas?

That site didn't have a download option to any ealier more stable version.
