Have you thought about making your site a for profit site. Banner ads (Links to game selling sites for instance) can bring in some doe as well as fund the bandwith.
Eventually (maybe sooner than later) there will be a need for an OFF Stardock server hub for collection and distribution of MODs with questional trademark images etc, Babylon 5, Star Trek, Starwars, LOTR, etc. One letter from a lawyer and they will probably have to start filtering the library very carefully.
I for one don't mind useful Banner ads. Amazon, EBGames etc. I am confident you could do it. How profitable and how much time you would have to put into it I do not know. But since you are already hooked you might as well make a buck. Right?

Unfortunately the company that I work for has strict policies on running web sites for profit. This applies even more as I work doing Web Development for the company.

That really bites. But we all have simular situations in life. When I was a journyman insulation installer my employers would beg me to bid on and do their buildings because I did quality work an darn fast. And my employer while the least expensive like all the other firms in the area had mostly incompetent installers. He was willing to pay me 20% above my employers bids. I had to weigh my job sequrity, loyalty, etc, versus a very good start in building my own business. My mothers medical bills made the decision for me. I had to take a pass. And so it goes. Who knows what the future will bring.  Sometimes good things fall from the sky. Yesterday Airborne Express brought me an unexpected copy of Rise of Nations Beta 2. No matter how you look at it we will all be having some fun with GalCiv for a very long time. Congratulations on the acknowledgment in the printed manual by the way.

Hey, was this a scam about someone with the same last name as you having no direct heir and wanting to leave the money to a person with the same name? A buddy at work got this email.

I notified the FBI about that scam where you pretend to be someone your not and they will reward you $250,000.00 plus if you go along with it. THe FBI agent that contacted me said, do not open the e-mails or reply. They have bilked people around the world (especially the US) for over 1 million in cold hard cash. They require a small investment as a retainer from you to process the case. If you open the mail it sends them a receipt that you opened it. This prompts them to continue spaming your address. FBI agents are working with the Nigerian goverment to catch the perps.

I personally love your efforts at Java Scout website. It has helped me improve my game quite a bit. I hope you add something on creating the events etc. That would be really cool if you could add that to your wealth of information already there. Thank you for the time you obviously spent creating it.
