Here is one of Atrocities models encoded into the game. I hope he doesn't mind me putting it up here, I'm not working on a Star Trek mod myself, just couldn't believe how good it looks. Can't wait to see what some of these guys mods look like!

I must say... awsome job. Can't wait to see more. You should start a web page if you haven't already.

As much as I'd like to take credit () it's not my model. All I did was encode it. The person that makes these models has done an incredible job of recreating just about every major race from Star Trek (and some others) for SE4 I believe. Here's a link to his site:

I can't imagine the time he's put into this. All I did was spend 10 minutes encoding one of his models.

Great. Can't wait to see some Star Trek mod for Galactic Civilizations. Is anyone working on it?

I would assume Atrocities is hard at work on his mod, which is why we aren't hearing from him. I wouldn't want to step on anybody's toes buy putting their hard work into a mod.

I did get bored last night though and pulled a lot more stuff in. Still can't believe the difference a good artist makes. I have absolutely no artistic talent myself!

I tried to e-mail him some cheer, but the Contact link was dead and the e-mail came back undeliverable. Atrocities posted on the forums some time last week. I would love to drop him/her a line if anybody knows how.

Atrocities hangs out at the Shrapnel Games / Space Empire IV forum. He just posted today (4/14).

Hotcoffeedude,
I really like you last screenshots , the angled view of ships looks much better IMHO than the default top-down view...But does the rotation works/looks correctly ?

#13  by Citizen hotcoffeedude - 4/16/2003 9:35:11 AM

Actually, they don’t rotate at all. Since I only had his fixed isometric portraits to work from, I just replicated the image 32x in the encoding strip and the ships never change direction when they move. In the last iteration I added a directional pointer so you could at least tell which direction a ship was facing (once I realized it was important to know where they were going).

If his pictures were renders, there’s no reason you couldn’t extract 32 facings from the render and actually make the ship rotate in apparent 3D. I’ve messed around with putting some 3D rotational models into the game and they do look really nice, but it’s *very* time consuming.

so whatever happened to this mod? is it a mod? how did he get those images like that? did atrocities draw the ships himself or just use pictures?

and when can we download it.....?

What happened to the mod?

Most of the pics here are for Space Empire IV. I think you can reuse them if you want.

well how far have you guys modded the game? are there plans for an full out star trek mod or are you guys just goofing around. i mean there are so many ships in this game you could easily add in anything from the nx-01 all the way up to the sovereign class.

when you actually make the ships they attack with the attack animations and stuff right? do the space stations upgrade and become terror stars? more importantly, is atrocities planning on realeasing this for general use ever?

Can some one please make the mod for Star Trek. New Age Ship Yards has great Star Trek ships, if anyone can get them to let you use them to make a mod. The link below shows you a good list of ships that they have. You just have to ask them permission.

Wow I am a big trekie fan and this looks really good. I hope he includes many other ships as well. Klingon, Romulon, Borg maybe. Great stuff and the detail is astonishing. I have seen other Star trek mods for the civ series never seem interesting but now in a real space game it is perfectly suited. Great job to the creator of the art, and to the one who took the time to encode it for GC. Excellent looking forward to the finished mod.

If you guys need a place to store your creation, private forums to discuss the mod, whatever you need my website will provide you with all the space needed for the project at no charge. Just an offer to anyone who needs a place to show their work while in beta stages or whatever. The website is at: http://www.cdgroup.org/forums/tbs/gc/ Link in case someone is interested. I posted a link before and it was removed I guess advertising is not allowed.

I started to work on one the porblem i am havening is that the bmps for the files i need are 32 x 32 on the new age ship site which makes them very small in game with some very hard to see. If I enlarge to 64 x 64 they look terrible. Tried using the larger ones but it looks weird when they turn.

Anyone else have already made Star Trek ships? I will look into pictures of federation ships. If you Star Trek Armada, you might be able to get them from there.

Try using the big images 128x128 and reduce them 50% to 64x64. Then use the 36x36 images for the required 24x24 images. If you are using the Stellar Frontier rotator, change the image to 8-bit color. I did all that but I need help on doing the Alpha Channeling to Targa files (.tga). I have Paint Shop Pro 7 and I changed the image back to 24-bit color and started the masking process. But how are you supposed to alpha channel the image? I know it goes to a grey-scale process but what do I do next? Anybody try anything yet?

#23  by Citizen Coll_Ohmsford - 4/27/2003 7:40:17 PM

I have been using paint shop too the alpha channel hasnt been a problem for me. Click on the Selections, Select all, Save to alpha channel after done save to tga. I tried using the 128x128 its nicer loooking but movements are weird when added since when you rotate its not face down. Been using the small face up ship in botton right corner called the mini ships. Works create but small ships such as the fighter can be very hard to see. If ya want email me and i will send ya what i got done so far if ya like email is [email protected]

There is a site that has a TON of different ship sets, mostly made for SEIV. I'll have to find it again. Most of them are just as excellent as the Star Trek set.

One that is really cool (and is kinda funny, all things considered) is a 'shark' ship set. All the ships are based on a shark space race.. very cool and mean looking at that! I think you should be able to recruit space sharks to your cause if you use them.
