Citizen Coll_Ohmsford:
Hey, what's up. Still have problem with the alpha channel. So I choose under Selections, select all to highlight the image strip, then save to alpha channel also under selections. I press OK to two of the questions, then save the file as name.tga
Then I run the compiler to get my .mdl file. I rename the .mdl to constructor.mdl and loaded it into the game. But the constructor image is just an oval grey ship with some blue spots even though I tried multiple different ship images.
What am I doing wrong???

I am using Paint Shop 5 but would think the steps are the same. Its very touchy so let me see if i can list my steps step bye step. First I loaded the bmp into paint shop, rotated it 180 degrees. Next i had to set transparency on. I set to background. Next I could rotate it 11.25 left without the whole box moving. I then saved it. Next I ran the rotater program. Check to make sure in the compiler as long as i could see all iterations i was okay. Saved to a bmp file. After that I loaded the bmp file from the rotater back into paint shop. Since i wanted it to be tranperent, i next created a new box same size as the one i have but selected background as transperent. Then I took the first one copied it, clicked on the new box and pasted as tranperent into the new one. I then saved the new one as a tga file. Once i got my icon and 24trans pic done i ran the compiler. If testing it i used the minor box. Am still working on mine had to find new pics found some for fed ships but for others haven problems finding all I need. Have Birth of the Federation and found out how to get to the pic files their checking them but they may not work all that well. Desided to not use any from the first site listed after reading the bottom where he states they can only be used for seIv without perrmission for anything else ya need permission. For Fed ships i got way more then I need just have to decide what ships to use fore what. Would people prefer to keep names of ships as they are now or would using the class names of ships bug people?

agg sorry citizen i forgot a step after i had pasted the copy to my new box, before i saved i clicked on the add alpha channel, new selection, then I saved as tga file.

for the naming of the ships, your hero ship should be the nx-01 enterprise. scout could be the phoenix. as for all the other names, the ships for the federation are all well documented so you could figure out what the names should be. daedulus class, then the consitition, then the consitition refit, excelsiour, reliant class, ambassador class, galaxy class yada yada yada. there are so many ships in galciv and so many ships in the star trek universe that they all match up perfectly. this game shouldnt be that hard to mod. if your good at making the ship stuff. the thing i wanted most was to change the sounds the ships make like photon torpedeos and phaser fire except the game requires some weird time of sound format for the weapons fire so whatever i switch the file names to doesnt work, so does anyone know how to figure that out?

Haven worked on the other parts yet so dont know. Have the fed Ships done I believe have to encode them into game. The part haven problems with now is finding enough for other empires. Hope to encode the fed ships this weekend just for a test run.

Maybe just sticking with one specific ship era would work better as GalCiv doesn't seem to have ship graphics upgrades as time progresses. It wouldn't feel right to have a Soverign class battleship with an NX-01 class explorer, right? Birth of the Federation had this same dilemma as MicroProse only and the TNG license, so they only used TNG ships. BTW, I did an encoding test manipulating screenshots from Starfleet Command 2 & 3 as you can pan around ships, especially top down view. It seemed to work but there's a problem with some aliasing. Will report later.

Here is the shark ship set.. anyone want to try to make it work with GalCiv?
Link
Also there are a couple other nice ship sets.
Here by the way, is a whole bunch of ship sets created for Space Empires IV by other authors:
Link
I think most or all are downloadable (I downloaded the shark set.. but I have a little less than no clue what I am doing with encoding them.. I have a bunch of bitmaps.. wee!).
I there there are a ton of great ship sets out there.. maybe I'll try to convert a few. The tool is confusing ot the layman however *sniff*

ok, so ya thats a good point. the nx-01 would become outdated eventually. but even in botf as you got the sovereign class ship you still had the ability to build the earlier destroyer class that isnt that powerful.
and even in galciv, you start out with some lame ships and eventually get beater ones. but you have a good point that the exploration hero ship wouldnt be able to change as the time period changes but maybe that could be fixed. at least the ships could look different as they improved over the years.
besides, i prefer the star trek graphic sets over the current galciv. no offense to the people who made the ships themself! its just they seem kind of funny looking with all the silver looking and roundness to them and stuff. not very spacialy dynamic, compared to the enterprise and other ships that seem to fit the classical version of what a spaceship should look like you know?

Awesome, I really love the DS9 Starbase. Now I am even more excited about getting a Star Trek conversion mod going. Hut101 I will set up forums for our project. Anyone else care to join our project stop into CDG website.
