There is an editor, it's called GalCiv Writer and has it's own thread .

That should be 'its own thread' of course, someone should release an editor for forum posts.

That is not an editor. That is a very nice UI around text files. Personnally, I still prefer vi over that...
What I want is a map editor, plus the ability to swap mods around. When this is available, the GalCivWriter will be really great (I know it may also edit some graphics files).

I would gladly pay (A$75 or US$35) for a user-friendly editor including map editing as I am not at all good with computers. (hint to Stardock)

skywalker: bah! Notepad OWNS YOU!

Seriously though...if Stardock didn't need an special editor for this stuff to MAKE the game, I'm not gonna ask for one so I can MOD it.

(So says the person who always codes his HTML by hand and finds GUI tools without scripting for a well-defined data format frustrating more often than not. If *I* can't decide to write a better editor if I feel like it, I tend to complain more about what I'm given. )

Well, I wrote the Writer so I'm naturally a little defensive, but to say the Writer is not an editor is a *little* dismissive.

I view it as a productivity tool. I have a lot of experience with the text files, and the Writer reflects that. I've tested what works and what doesn't, and if the Writer doesn't let you do something, it's probably for your own good.

But of course I understand its not for everyone.

hell... i like GalCiv Writer... as a person who has never made mods before but wants to try his hand at it, GalCiv Writer gives me a real good shot a putting somethin together. Its like "GalCiv Modding for Dummies" (not meant in a bad way).

You did a helluva job on it and you don't need to get defensive because 99% of us love it (and appreciate your hard work! )

You'll never satisfy that last 1% so let it just f-l-o-w right off yer back H50.

besides your a diplomat now... you must be... erm... "diplomatic" ... and I should know I'm not easily impressed. Whoa that dog has a fluffy tail!

Seriously -good job (hell GREAT JOB!) and thanks again for your efforts. I hope you'll do more stuff in the future cause you do quality work!

BTW - I now officially vote this thread as most likely to be regretted by it's creator and least likely to ever die *sigh*

I tried putting together some events and came out with three of them that i think are decent... the pictures might need some resizing and the wording might need fixing (this is my first try at this sort of thing). If anyone would be interested in checking them out and trying them out for me so i know what to fix, I'd greatly appreciate it. I don't have anywhere to host them currently and i don't want to sumbit them yet cause they might need working on. If you'd like to see them I guess you can just tell me and i'll e-mail them... or if anyone wants to put them up somewhere for me and then when they're completely finished i'll just post them to the GalCiv library. Thanks for whatever help i wind up recieving.

Come on over to the CDG forums and post them in this forum:
http://www.cdgroup.org/forums/tbs/gc/viewforum.php?f=6 Link

You'll get some feedback and when you are comfortable with the final form you can post it in the Library.

Hope to see you there!

well... if the confirmation e-mail every comes i'll post them in there... one of the three is having a lot of problems technically and personally so i'll put my other two events in... also, i had submitted an Anomaly to the GalCiv.com Library; i'll post it in that forum also as soon as I get the chance.
