I'm interested in this as well. No matter which setting I choose on the Gigantic map I get about 270-280 stars. I'd like to be able to modifiy the program to have more stars/planets and less space too. Has anyone played around with this?

There's not currently a way to change it. Should I add it to my suggestions list?

That'd be awesome. How about some even larger galaxies too, for some really epic games?

Second that. I want more control over how the stars are distributed, too; for instance, I'd like to be able to set them up in authentic galactic patterns (spiral, irregular, barred spiral, etc.) This is, in fact, my only true peeve about GalCiv, the way that, on the "huge" and "gigantic" galaxy sizes that I prefer, the stars are bunched up with _huge_ amounts of empty space between the clusters (whether they be open or tight clusters). This just doesn't seem realistic to me and I'd like the ability to be able to set up a galaxy with spiral arms.

Yep. Seven is the magic number that makes it an 'official' suggestion... More stars and more choice in the structure of the galaxy would be kewl....
Perhaps it would mean making a util to 'create' some pre-fab galaxy maps which could be then loaded by GalCiv? That way everyone is kept happy and the variety of gameplay is increased even further - I guess the only issue is balancing the added star effect for the metaverse.

Making a map editor for GC is on our list, so you could definitely do a lot of the stuff suggested in this thread there.

Hmm, no posts on this since April? D'oh! Have the great minds at Stardock done any more thinking on this? Being able to adjust the ratio of stars to empty space is good idea. joea64 is right, there's way too much empty space on the gigantic map size, 100 square sectors of NOTHING in some cases. Possibly that's more realistic given the relative emptiness of most of the universe, but not so good for the playing. So, if any galciv insiders are still watching this thread, I'd appreciate an update from ya'll. It's a great game, keep up the good work!
