Here are some specific questions that arose while working with the Events files. If someone could take a moment to answer/clarify/expound, I would greatly appreciate it.

1) In BoogieBac's tutorial, he states that Morality Weight is a value between 1 and 5. However, in some of the bonuspak events (MoNatives for instance), Morality Weight is greater than 5. Are the bonuspak events in error?

2) In BoogieBac's tutorial, under Colonization Options, he lists 8 as Defense Bonus and 9 as Research Bonus. However, the events that come with the game seem to think that 8 is Research (Sea Monkeys is an example). I can confirm that 9 is indeed Research, so the canned events are bugged. However, 8 doesn't seem to do anything. Is 8 truly Defense Bonus, and if so, is this feature implemented? Shouldn't the Defense Bonus show up under the planet's Details tab?

3) In all working events, Probability is 100. Is this feature not implemented, then?

4) In a Random event (global to the player's civilization), if you make use of the PopChange fields, are you affecting the population on every planet under that player's control? Or merely the capital planet? Or perhaps PopChange doesn't work for Random events?

5) The Value field will be randomized in-game to determine the amount applied. What is the algorithm used to determine the range of possible Values? If that's proprietary, just a ballpark explanation of the possible range would be satisfactory.

Thanks in advance!

I didn't work on the events, so I don't know them terribly well, but based what I found looking at the code:

1) There doesn't seem to be any code looking for specific values for morality weight. However, this is used to calculate the morality changes, which must be between -10 and 10, inclusive. So maybe it ends up being effectively a value between 1 and 5.

2) The constants do agree with what Scott posted, so maybe they changed since those events were made. People have been reporting bugs with that event.

3) Probability of the event occurring is not implemented at this time

4) Those values affect every colony.

5) Unless the value starts out as zero, the adjusted value is between 1 and abs(value), and then is multipled by negative one if necessary.

Thanks for the response!

OK, I think that clears up 2) through 5). Leaving only 1) remaining.

So maybe Morality Weight is 1 through 10, correlating to the maximum possible morality changes? With the Evil choice essentially doing a * -1.

Or, there might be a bit of randomization going on, meaning that it should be limited to 1 to 5, and then randomization might (at most) double the effect.

So I will leave the discussion open. Can anyone else familiar with events weigh in with the possible values for Morality Weight?

Thanks again!

*bump*

If BoogieBac cruises through this thread, can please you take a stab at 1). Namely, is Morality Weight 1 to 5, or 1 to 10?

Thanks!

OK, after some sleuthing through the code it looks like I made a mispost in my Random Events tutorial. The morality should still be 1-5 (it can go higher but it ends up ignoring the morality side of the event) but 1 == a HUGE morality changing event and 5 == a tiny morality changing event. Hope this clears things up

It sure does, I'll change my documentation and the Writer right away.
