Major Problems...
|
 |

 |
After having a nice problem with installing a bunch of the mods from the library and having them stop my GC from running, I decided to reinstall to get the original data files. Well, I was able to figure out which particular mod was causing the problems, but now I've got no resources or starbase modules. Both the GCResource.RESOURCE & CoreModules.SBMODULE are perfectly normal and haven't been modified at all, yet I can build nothing on my bases, and there are no resources in my galaxies.
In the debug.err I've got:
**** Script Error **** : Data\GCResource.RESOURCE (L:2 C:9) - parse error
**** Script Error **** : Data\CoreModules.SBMODULE (L:2 C:6) - parse error
From what I can make of this, the L:2 & C:6(9) are Line & Character, and if that's correct, both of these errors are basically about the emtpy space between object type and id_number, for example:
//------------------------------------------------------
RESOURCE 1 Synthahol
//------------------------------------------------------
The error is pointing to the space between RESOURCE and 1. My debug.err also has a nice list of other files in it that have parse errors, including all of the UPISSUEs and the INVTACTICs files, but I haven't been able to test if they work correctly because of the problems above. Basically, if anybody can help me figure out how to fix this, I would be extremely greatful.

Could you zip up your \Data folder (minus the save games) and beam it over to me?
This has come up a couple of times and I'm interested in running it down.

I sent you the files, hopefully you can figure it out.

OK, try this.
In \InvasionTactics, find the file poison.invtactic.
Change the heading from:
//------------------------------------------------------------------------
INVTACTIC Poison Supplies
//------------------------------------------------------------------------
to
//------------------------------------------------------------------------
INVTACTIC PoisonSupplies
//------------------------------------------------------------------------
(removing the space in the name)
When I left it as is, no SB modules available. I fixed it, and now my SB modules are back.
If this doesn't do it, then please do the following:
1) Close out of GalCiv (if running).
2) Find debug.err in the GalCiv directory.
3) Delete debug.err.
4) Open GalCiv.
5) Start new game.
6) Once the galaxy is generated, but before the end of the next turn, alt-tab out of GalCiv and e-mail me the new debug.err file.
But I think fixing poison.invtactic will do it. I e-mailed this message to you too.

As you've probably noticed, one parse error will mess up all the files read in after it, so always fix the top one first.

Oh yes, it will cascade down and send you on a wild goose chase if you don't notice the root error.
And thanks for putting the "stamp of approval" on my fix-it yourself bugs in the Main forum. I'd hate to think I was giving out bad advice.

Cool, thanks for the info! I already reinstalled the game so I could play while you took a look at it, but I'm gonna put all my mods back now. Thanks again for your help.
