Another Fix-It Yourself Post

Starting to work on the Tech tree, found a little problem that you can fix yourself if you are comfortable with Notepad.

All of the techs marked with Ability "Production" grant no bonus. This is because the game won't recognize the "Production" attribute, it doesn't tie to any of the known GalCiv constants.

However, if you change "Production" to either "MilitaryProduction" or "SocialProduction", you will gain +10% to that category.

So now the question is: For the 4 techs that are currently tagged as "Production", which should be Mil and which should be Social? Or you can get greedy and add both.

Here are the 4 bugged techs:
High Density Metals
Tri-Strontium Alloy
Advanced Slavery (Evil)
Nano-Mining

I'll probably change the two metalworking techs to be "MilitaryProduction", and the mining and slavery to be "SocialProduction" in my data files. You are, of course, free to make your own choice.

Don't ask what effect making this change would have on your Metaverse legality. No one knows, and if you are concerned about it I'd skip it and play without this modification.

Oh, and if you wanted to add both types of production, just add the second line, GalCiv supports multiple bonuses per tech. IOW, swap the line:
Ability "Production"

with

Ability "MilitaryProduction"
Ability "SocialProduction"

GCTech.tech

If you are working with the Writer, it will automatically convert "Production" to "SocialProduction" on the way in.

Hawaii Five-O,

I changed the metal techs to have both, since I felt they would influence "Production" across the board, but limited Nano-Mining and Advanced Slavery to Social Production, as you did. I submitted a game with these changes. Other than the abysmal score, thanks to the new scoring system, it went was accepted without a problem.

End transmission.

Good to know. Looks like the Stardock Detect-A-Mod code looks for flagrant flouting of the rules, not incremental changes.

'Course, I'll never join the Metaverse so I'm not terribly concerned with whether or not something is legal for the Metaverse or not. I post the disclaimers to halt the inevitable "What effect will this have on the Metaverse?" queries.
