selling giving ships

What I was wondering is:-

When you give/sell or recieve ships they change their 'look' to represent the race recieving them. I wanted to know that if there was a way to not only keep the same graphics for the ship but also the bonus's effecting it from starship improvments that were used to build it?

Thereby recieving or selling a better/worse quality of ship, that you alreay have.

Not sure if I explained that properly but.... oh well

The only things you can keep are the current hit points if they're lower than teh max value, and teh experience of the ship, as far as I reckon.
I strongly doubt you can keep the graphics, because that would mean each unit would have to keep such an image, which looks like a waste of memory.

Well starships change image so as not to confuse people because having ships that look the same on all sides would get confusing. And you keep all bonuses the are permanant such as shipyards and such used to build it but tech and abilty upgrades do not transfer.
