So,
after playing a nice and friendly game on a large galaxy, and winning through my patented "Coca Cola and Hamburgers strategy(TM)"(inluence victory) I discovered to my horror, that it only gave me a measly 386 points to win like this!
whats up with that?!?
I mean, my empires are the "flower-power hippie, be nice to everyone while overpowering the youth of other planets with my lifestyle" kinda empire, and I love that option in a strategy game.
So, why is it that the evil-kill'em all kinda victory is the one giving major points?
Everyone who agrees with me, that influence, peacefull victories should carry more punch on the metaverse, please sign this petition. I will personally hold a virtual party, with virtual Drengin Women for everyone who signs up here

Hmmmmmm... I got 380 points on a medium galaxy for a cultural victory. Though I haven't been able to submit the score to the metaverse, data goes out but doesn't get to their server and into the database. I've re-registered multiple times and tried using windowed version, fullscreen version, with stardock central running and without it running... no luck so far... oh well, I have the save and will finish again and resubmit when it is working for me.

what difficulty level were you on? i think i got more points than that at "bright" level with an alliance win on a medium galaxy.

Razgon, I am having the same displeasure with the scores. Here are the 3 games, with approximate scores, map size, difficulty level, and victory type:
1 - Gigantic, All AI Bright, Military (2 turns from cultural, about 5 turns from tech), 2200 points
2 - Gigantic, All AI Intelligent, Military (4 turns from cultural, about 10-20 from tech), 1900 points
3 - Gigantic, All AI Genius, Tech (6 turns from cultural, 10-15 from military), 1100 points
As you can see, my scores went DOWN as the AI levels went up. I think the scoring needs to be re-evaluated. My game against the Genius AIs was much more difficult, and took a lot more strategy to win.
I really think the scoring calculation needs to be re-evaluated.

Yin, thats rather incredible, can you post your settings here? Level and so on?
Dave, I agree, they need to reevaluated, perhaps testing a few different approaches with current scoring?
I played on "Normal", Large galaxy with all 5 races on, oh and tight clusters I think.

hmmm...then perhaps we should be competing for the lowest score.
i can see it now: gigantic galaxy, all incredible AI, military victory: 17 points!
cheers

I think that the Difficulty level should be the most impotant factor in determining the score. It has been mentioned that perhaps number of enemy ships killed has something to do with it. If this is true, I think it should be removed from the equation completely. I think it is more diificult to co-exist peacefully for an entrire game, fightig fairly rarely, but win a cultural or even a military victory (by having ALL enenmy worlds defect) than it is to play at normal level, get way ahead technologically, and then mercilessly slaughter all of the AIs. Also, if you can remain 'Good' throughout an entire difficult game, which I somehow managed to do against all Genius AIs, this should count for something. It is frustrating to see people get 3000 and 5000 points playing on normal AIs! It seems to render any kind of metaverse ranking system useless. I think the scores should be reflective of the top players, and those top players play against tghe toughest AIs. Those victories may not be as dominant, but they are much better reflection of top notch play.

I also think game length (in # of turns) should not have much to do with scoring. I realize this is probably in the equation to prevent the extension of already won game just to get more techs and increase score, but it should not be weighted as heavily as it is. It takes MUCH longer to beat all Genius AIs on a gigantic map, than normal AIs on a medium map.
