Then let's find something else. Let's talk strategies:

What difficulty, map size and planet type does everyone prefer?

I am working normal now but I'm hoping to get to the next step with in the month. I usually play Large, anything bigger is too big. and I like uncommon, loose clusters.

I have found that Painful provides enough of a challenge but still allows me to play the game and not the AI. Sometimes I drop to Challenging if I have a bad experience.

I find it spoils the fun to have to save and reload if something you don't like happens. The same with looking for all the yellow planets before you start, I prefer the thrill of discovering one and maybe getting an improvement.
The same goes for the other cheats that people employ to win at the higer levels.
The only cheat I use, is ctrl N until Earth is PQ 20.
I don't go on for hours trying to get three or four yellow planets in the home sector.

I think Earth should be 'hard wired' at PQ20. It would save a lot of time.
I have won with lower values than 20, but it is not easy.

I also think Large is the ideal size for fun.

I know, I don't cheat at all. I mean what good is a score is you cheat? It's a matter of preference. I think eventually I will cheat just to kick some alien tail.

This was about to slip off page one.
Can't have that, can we?

couldnt agree with you more. keep hitting ctrl+n to get decent starting pq is annoying. i dont really care where on the map i start from, its more fun that way. but you do need a decent pq for earth.

question. can you rename earth?

#256  by Citizen Fulgrymm - 11/14/2003 5:53:08 PM

Not Earth by itself, but you can rename the system just like with the systems that you colonize.

Oh, and welcome to the Evil Empire btw.

Thanks for the info Lord Megatron.
It is interesting to know who you are alligned with.

I live near Perth in Western Australia.
I am married with two ankle biters, old enough for me to return to work.
I have one dog that likes to chase cats, but not too closely.

LLEE.

Holding out for a PQ 20 all the time? No sense of adventure, I say. A PQ 17 or 18 can be fun once in a while. The reason against using CTRL-N too often is to get some of those "worst case" scenarios and try to salvage them. Doing that once in a while toughens a player up to handle harder levels faster and to adapt to bad situations better. What was once "Oh man, this is bad. I am dead for sure" may become "Hmm. A little bit tricky, but I can manage" over time. I am not saying using it is cheese. A lot of people, even very successful players, swear by it. I am just saying that taking the easy way out all the time may close one off to new ways of solving old problems that a particular player may have never thought about before while under less pressure.

I agree and I used to do that, but I like to have fun and not struggle and worry.
That is why I don't bother with Maso.
I know this means I will never get anywhere in the Metaverse. So be it.

Top 100 player is nothing to sneeze at.

It will be interesting to see how "improved" the AI is when 1.12 comes out. I don't use cheese per se to win at maso, but I do go for getting all AIs allied. At that point, a win is just going through the motions. If it is harder to get the AI to that point, or things have been added to get them to break alliances - I probably would be in trouble. And maybe a few other maso players.

But then we will just have to find a different way to win.

Yes, but there is a BIG difference between my score and those on page two.
My 12K games stand no chance against the 60K ones that are standard for some people. So I have stopped thinking about it.

together we are stronger than the individual.

Together, we can topple all great regimes before us.

That which does not kill us makes us stronger!

Oh, sorry...thought this was just a good spot for tossing out cliches...(Samurai Ben glances around self-consciously, ducks behind a rock, and slinks off hurriedly, muttering and peeking over his shoulder)

#266  by Veteran DarkAssassin - 11/15/2003 10:18:02 PM

No need to run, Samurai Ben, this is a good spot for tossing out cliches. And the one you tossed was good.

But Lord Megatron amd Fulgrymm are right. The time is near, I feel it coming.

We need more recruits, then we can begin our push for the top.

What you think.

Send Lord Megatron out to capture Samurai Ben and hold him under a taning machine until he gets that blue face of his sunburnt.. then he can join the evil empire.

Sounds good to me.

Hey! I have a few recent Evil submissions, but that was just...er...experimenting with strategies! Yeah! Or maybe it was the booze...

I could turn Sam's face black if you wish it Lord.

#272  by Citizen Fulgrymm - 11/16/2003 5:15:37 PM

Yeah, burn Sammy in his own booze. Then roast him in the oven for a while, he'll be crispy and the taste of alcohol will be marinated into him. It'd make an excellent feast.

Varja and Lord Pravage. Not sure if I welcomed you to our Empire...so..welcome.

Varja, love your picture. Different.

To get recruits, we need to keep this thread on page one.
