If you convince Berzerk74 to leave the Illuminati, then you are really set for life.

help us get to 9th place, come and join Evil Empire!

im guessing we wont get many recruits till we are closer to taking over #9 spot.

thats a good point, we should see more recruits when the X-pack comes out.
| |
|
C'mon new recruits, try as a hard as we like but there's no substitute for high score members when looking for a higher empire score.
The sooner the better, my last empire barely stayed top 10, I like being part of an empire where its members play to kick some ass. Whereas the Terran Federation is turning into a dead empire, well at least in respects to Sarcasto.

thats true, new recruits wont bring up our score too much -established players with scores is what we want, but im not sure how we can get them to jump ship.
with the x-pack release however, we will see some players come out of retirement who already have a good score, but they just havent played in awhile. hopefully when they come out of retirement, the see that their old empire is dead, and they decide to join an active empire.

|
You could let some good guys to join your empire and that will allow you to create tow parties evil against good, and you could compete again each other to see who gets the best scores, the evil one or the good one. Just and idea, I know that at the end good shall prevail!!!!!

Hairy,
I think you're going to have a hard time recruiting established evil players... but new players are a valid source of points. (I had about 4,000 k when I joined GROSS.)
You guys are doing fine and it's good to have some evil cousins to make us look 'good' in comparison. We are a evil-themed empire and everyone roleplays that to some extent. It just seems to restrictive to tell someone they HAVE to play a certain way (if you look at the Evil ranking board you'll find that's how much of GROSS chooses to play). But if we kicked good people out, GROSS would miss Gerraken and Hurley who still manage to fit our theme very well and contribute A LOT. We'd also miss developing players. I was CG when I joined GROSS, but I liked the theme and I worked toward evil mostly because I like the evil theme.
As for jumping ship, GROSS obviously has the biggest population of evil players and if you can't tell the by the THREE threads we run, we like our evil theme and each other's company (as well as the sound of our voices)and we have a heritage of 'evil' stories in our history. We also have a lot of people who post a lot of games, many of them aren't very active. Since evil is ambitious, it's not likely that we'd ever jump ship and leave their scores behind.
I like your no compromises position... but if you're interested in a evil theme with a lot of established players, you should join forces against the goodie-themed Fellowship and we could rule the galaxy together. This even fits an evil Sith theme, because is you read the South Seas thread you'll discover that Pontius is EVERYONE's father
Either that or continue recruiting, perhaps you could compromise and say only 'evil' senators?
In any case, I think you guys are a worthy competitor and should do what seems fun.... but don't except us to join you ...
By the way, thanks for the Blue Steel target -- it's relxing. Are you sure it's just a target? I'm been seeing Blue Steel 'inactive' since I did my first practice drop.
Good luck,
Cypher

Recruitment for theme empires, such as the Evils, is always tough. There isn't any natural hinterland to recruit from. Often the key to successful recruitment is a solid and interesting theme, active leaders and players and people having fun. Have the above and you will find players both new and old, joining you. It's a good feeling to grow a small empire into a big one so perserve at it.
Instead of wondering where the next recruit will come from, why don't you build your empire persona? Where did the Evil empire come from? What does the TerrorStar of Evil do? Who are the personalities in the Evil Empire? Why did they join? What abilities do you have? What do the Evils seek to do in the Meta?
You guys get the idea.

on the other hand once theme based empires have recruits its harder to loose them.
However with Localaty groups it easier to get new recruits (suposidly) but harder to keep them.
One Big thing that i've found is that new recruits can be drawn in with the use of eye candy.. IE: if your logo catches their interest then your over 1/2 the way to getting them as a recruit.
Then you have to keep them.. and as Ray has Suggested Charactorization of overlords is a great way to involve them in the metaverse. even though /I run a locality empire the regular overloards ALL have charactors,Personalaties,Quirks that makes them an individual in the team. and nothing makes a person feel as important as recognition and praise

the empire is staying "evil-only" -its what makes our empire different from everyone else, we may have logo changes every once in awhile, but the rule stays. at the moment, we are the only empire that has rules such as this, and im hoping that someone will create another empire with similar rules.
however, the one modified rule that someone mentioned (i cant find which post it came from anymore, my eyes are tired), about "anyone can join, but only "evil" is allowed in the senate" sounds interesting. i can see some recruiting potential in this, but im not sure if it would work. i would need some thoughts on this from other Evil Empire members on this.
as for a story behind Evil Empire, i do admit, we dont have much of a story. the only thing that joins us is the old saying "birds of a feather, flock together" -not saying we're birds or anything . i do agree, we should get some sort of story started, but we will need some time to think up of one.
the past few posts from people outside of Evil Empire have all been very helpfull, i thank you all for the good ideas and points. one thing the past few posts showed is that the business of the empires in the metaverse actually has a lot of depth and untold stories. one thing im hoping for in GalCiv2 is that they use some of the empires from the metaverse in the game. maybe we would only be minors, but still, it would be pretty neat to be tradeing or wageing war with G.R.O.S.S., Fellowships of the Ring, ANZAC, Illuminati and all the others empires.

My unsolicited personal opinion - don't do it. The uniqueness of the Evil empire is the evil-only requirement. Diluting it with non-evil members would make it similar to any other empires.
| |
|
I think that some of the evil players are afraid of the good players taken control over their evil empire and transforming it into the "Goodie two shoes empire".
| |
|
true, it would diminish our image if we did do it, but then it might help with recruiting. im just wondering by how much it would help. the one thing that helped this empire getting into the top 10 was that this empire is original -if we changed the rules, our empire wont stand out as it is now.
they both have their pros and cons, but i think the strict "evil-only" rule has proven itself -it works. the "evil-only in the senate" rule hasnt been tested, and maybe it shouldnt be implemented on an empire based on originality. i can see it giving a small boost to an empire with no morality rules, but i have to question if it will work for Evil Empire.

the x-pack hasnt come out yet, so who knows how many old players will return.

You could let neutral people join as "apprentice evil-mongers", with a time-limit to start acting evil or get kicked out... you could make the leader be whoever's got the most evil score by the Gerakken Method (with some consideration for no. of games played), there's lots of things you could consider.
I hope you keep an evil theme, but, it makes things much more fun.
"In the left corner, we have the the original face of evil in the Metaverse, the ancient dragon of death and destruction, powerful as ever - ladies and gentleman, I present to you - GROSS!"
"And in the right corner, the vicious upstarts that have electrified the Metaverse with their promise of bringing 'the ultimate evil', I give you - THE EVIL EMPIRE!"
"Well, what do you think, Bob?"
"Call me crazy, Ray, but I think the Evil Empire can bring this one home."
"You are crazy."
"Hear me out! Sure, GROSS has some history of evil -"
"Some? Some? The Pirates' Book Of Evil Deeds has turned into a 20-volume encyclopedia!"
"Yes, but what have they done recently? No-one cares about the champions a decade ago, all they see is recent form, and the pirates haven't got any. They've gone corporate."
"Yes, but with a more efficient corporate structure, they've given themselves enough power to spread evil to a whole new level!"
"But what evil are they spreading? Piracy, smuggling, gambling, the occasional murder, they're all petty crimes. The Evil Empire's bringing a fresh message of evil, and it's really speaking volumes to the younger punters in the crowd."
"Sure, they talk big, but I haven't seen anything to justify their claims. They've done some depraved stuff, sure, but haven't we all? I know I've fire-bombed a few planets when I was pissed off, and I'm not calling myself the lord of evil. It's all about scale, they have to spread their evil over a million worlds like GROSS has done in the past before I take them seriously."
"GROSS spreads the message of evil to more planets, but they've lost the spirit of the message! They're fighting for the right to be evil, but they've forgotten what evil really means!"
"They don't talk about evil all the time cause they've already shown the Metaverse how much damage they can do. You don't need to see a mafia boss have someone killed every day to prove he can have it done!"
"I'm sorry, but I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this one. The purified evil of the Evil Empire shall triumph."
"We'll see who's standing after the fight."
