I love how this thread just keeps going... and going... and going...

I would definately, without a doubt, pre-order MoM 2 if it was multiplayer. If it's not it is unlikely that I, nor any of my friends would purchase it at all. That is just my preference. Please don't hate if you like single player better, I understand if you do. Master of Magic was one of the best strategy games I ever played. But I because it lacked multiplayer, as did most TBS games back then if I remember correctly, I got bored of it within a couple of weeks. I need to social and competative aspects of a multiplayer game.

As far as the brief rumor I heard about a sequel to Star Control, I would definately pre-order that if the original creators were working on it. Star Control 2 was one of the most brilliant games ever. Star Control, without the direction from the original creators, was largely a piece a garbage. It had its moments but they were far and few between.

I would pre-order at least 3 copies of MoM2 if Stardock would bring it out..with or without multi-player. This game is too good to languish in limbo. I trust Stardock to do the right thing with it too. I like the idea of having Classic MoM along with the other options...more than 2 worlds seemed appealing, terrain elevation modifiers, more heroes, more items, more wizards. Options are good.
Thanks for even considering this course...I've been hoping for something like this for years.
Anyone know what Steve Barcia is doing these days? I always wished he could have finished that mech-type game he was working on and thought FASA were idiots for blocking it. Oh well, Good Luck, Stardock! and keep up the good work. Looking forward to GC2 as well!

I think there were terrain elevation modifiers in the original. Being on a Hill or a mountain gave you a defensive advantage I think. Or at least building a town on one did.

I think Steve Barcia can now be considered a suit rather than developer. I think he's in some management position related to Metroid Prime 2 or something.

I read about this in game informer. I'm totaly willing to preorder. In fact! If you make this a multiplayer game I will order 3 copies! I love this game and would be playing it right now if I could get it to work on XP. Please let me see Mast of Magic 2!

If this is any indication of how it would be recieved...
I just found out about this today and just created an account to reply.

I have never even heard of GC.

From the front page

Sunday, October 24, 2004 - Paul Kerchen joins Galciv II team and then on to Master of.. game

Paul Kerchen, best known for his work on Whirlingchair games and as one of the lead developers on the Simcity games has joined Stardock.

Initially he'll be working on the new Galactic Civilizations II planet screen which will be a radical improvement over the rather limited and lame GalCiv planet screen.

In Galactic Civilizations II, the planet quality will determine how much of a given planet is useable. Players will have a topographical map of the planet in which they can improve upon piece by piece, build factories, research centers, etc. as well as take advantage of unique elements on a given world (ruins, rare mineral deposits, etc.).

The result will be that planets will have a lot more depth involved but still have relatively straight forward, simple game mechanics (in other words, the planet improvement screen will NOT be a game unto iself but rather something that adds new strategic depth.

Paul's experience at Maxis will be a great boon for this part of the project. Once this part is completed, Stardock expects Paul to be the lead on the upcoming Stardock fantasy game.

Good news all around, extremely gratefull that joined Dengrin Net/Stardock Central.

I bought Master of Magic the day it came out and still play it to this day that game rocked. as long as they keep the the core to the game and just improve the graphics i would have no trouble dropping some coin on these guys for it. for me the core idea would need to remain the same with multiplayer functionality and a new graphical engine it wouldn't have to be much. but i'm thinking classic isometric view would be pretty cool. i've put some thought into this as you can no doubt see.

#309  by Citizen Texan Otaku - 10/27/2004 11:46:14 PM

sign me up. I would more than happily pre-order a copy if that meant that I could play it again. I played the original for ages, even on newer computers with a dos startup disk, until I lost the disk and couldn't get a new one made. I have loved that game for so long and nothing i have played even comes close. Please do so. Also, you might want to get the word out a little bigger. I found out about this today in a snippet in Game Informer that I almost missed. Otherwise, I'll help and contribute anything you need to get this rolling.

Does Stardock actually have the rights to Master of Magic from Atari or is it still pending? I'll be real disappointed if they don't get it

galciv2 already has a website up, is stardock gonna set up a mom2 website anytime soon?

Renewing Drengin.net registration because of Master. And because of the rest of the games, as well
Or should we call it TotalGamingnet?

Master of Magic is my favorite game of all time. I have to say that all I want out of a second one is a little updated graphics, and a few extra features like... more retorts and being able to pick up a few more spellbooks and of course a few more spells. World maps slightly bigger would be nice as well... If it had even half of that I would most certainly be willing to preorder it!

#314  by Citizen GM Pax - 11/6/2004 8:25:35 PM

HELL, yeah, I'd preorder MoM2 -- sight unseen!!

Heck, I'm bloody tempted to offer to INVEST in it - even though that'd mean me not eating for a few months. ^_^

All I *really* want is:
... slightly updated graphics. Doesn't have to be 3D, just better resolution!
... multiplayer (both hotseat and network)

Everything else is pure extras. ^_^ Mind you, for a WISHLIST ...

... Race-specific spells of the various magic types;
... "multi-color" spells - spells which require more than one color spellbooks, like "black/red" or "white/green" or the like;
... bigger maps
... somewhat more control over the features of each map - not just amountof water and strengthof magic, but: number of nodes, how cold/arid/etc the world is, wether the land is a single landmass, a few continents, or many small islands; that sort of thing!
... more maps - multilevel within the same Plane would work, better IMO than more planes; Arcanus and Myrror worked as-is. Perhaps, and this is a bit of a BIG maybe, little demi-plane pockets connecting Arcanus Towers to Myrror Towers, rather than direct connections between the two ...?
... an Avatar level hero for EACH of the colors of magic, instead of just for White
... less automatic superiority for Heroes over military Units ... I'm SICK of the Chosen wading through army after army with hardly a scratch.
... the ability to make "lesser artifacts" in quantity, and distribute them to your troops - which might address the troop/hero imbalance. And, I do mean more than just magic/mithril/adamantine weapons. Why not make the weapons seperately from the troops ...? And the armor, for that matter. ^_^

Yes, I will preorder. I will preorder RIGHT NOW. Woot-woot!

Give it hotseat multiplayer and I'm sold.

I, too, registered just to reply to this topic (and bump it!).

I would definitely pre-order MoM2 as long as it was anyone but Quicksilver making it.

I didn't like GalCiv, it just didn't seem to have the same epic feel as the MoO series. I missed the big star map.

Maybe I should d/l the demo again and read the manual first.

#318  by Citizen danjako - 11/17/2004 8:55:54 PM

Yeah, I don't think very much of Master of Magic needs changing. It's the game that got me into gaming period (I was 10). I played it for a few years. I recently got it up again with dosbox (with no sound ). The only problems I could find were if you went with 11 life books, you could get incarnation or invunrability at the very beginning. With invurability on guardian spirits in the very beginning you can conquer the world in a few years (on impossible). With incarnation it's not as easy but you start with a definite advantage. Also, the historian is always wrong, it would show the enemies 10 times as strong as me while I conquer their last city. I'll pre-order for sure by the way.

Have there been any hints as towards when Stardock will have a web page for MoM2? Yes I am impatient

#321  by Citizen nazrix - 11/23/2004 8:22:50 PM

dunno. I'm waiting too

#322  by Citizen brycej - 11/26/2004 8:27:08 PM

Well, has it been 3 months since we heard something?
Atari recently sold the Civ franchise to an unknown buyer. They apparently need the money. Most people are guessing Firaxis bought it.

But maybe Brad bought it. Come clean, Brad.

Negotiations continue.

Just a matter of all the legal stuff.

Now that is what I call a teaser. The earlier post mentioned Civ, is this teaser about Civ or MoM, or for that matter since Atari buggered it up MOO?
