for some reason i can't download V1.2. i keep getting a can't find exe. error message.

Perhaps you should install and update via Stardock Central...

You have to update both GalCiv and Altarian Prophecy to play Altarian Prophecy. Stardock Central is the best way to install and update GalCiv and Altarian Prophecy.
