Paul...you lot are lucky in the U.K. We yanks can't return games here anymore unless we make a Federal caseout of it. Probably because of too many losers who played the games in one sitting, then brought them back for a refund so they could get another game and "win" it in one night. (to beat the game is all that matters to the Nintendo cum PC bunch of gamer DOODES. Once its done...its worthless to them.)

Quantum... its not you computer its your monitor! LCD aint for gaming yet. But look on the bright side: there's already a poll for screen resolution!

Enter Gerakken for the lower end system spec perspective:

A lot of use wouldn't know 1280x1024 if it hit us on the head! There are still a lot of mediocre systems out there. And then comes the computer budget reality. If I got say, $1500 to play with for a new machine, then I am not going to be plunking down almost a third for a killer cutting edge gaming card and the other 2/3 for a monitor. There would be no money left for the rest of the computer!

Galciv is not a game meant to push the graphics envelope by any means. To me, saying that Galciv doesn't look good on a fancy LCD monitor system is like saying your high-end sports car does not run well on normal unleaded gasoline. Just my 2 BC.

All I can say is if you guys are happy with things graphics-wise then so be it. I call it setting low-expectations and by simply accepting that then you can and will have to enjoy your ascii games until the end of time...

Quantum-enjoy your LCD monitor made for spreadsheets, word processing, internet surfing , solitair and mindsweeper.
Those of us who arent omplaining have a wide range of systems, monitors and gaming tastes as well. I play the latest FPS (though Doom3 will be out of reach on this rig) with cutting edge graphics as well as turn based games. I've been dazzled and razzled. And bored. And GalCiv looks fine to me because I'm playing the game, not looking at graphics and cooing over them or trying to impress my buddies with my neat computer.
Its been discussed enough. Stardock may add resolution changes in an upcoming patch or they may not...might depend on the poll. If you want to do something constructive, vote in the poll.
Other than that, just deal with it. Its not as if the game is so buggy or crappy its unplayable....and we all have had those experiences. There's lots in life that will come our way that doesnt meet our expectations. Worse things will happen to you, believe me.
So that you can feel better: We all have low expectations and will enjoy our crappy, games until they end of time while you will rise above the rest of us mired in the pit of mediocrity, rsing to the sky on a brilliant ray of heavenly light...you and your master computer..superior to the rank and file in every way. We gaze at you up there, and wave (but not too quickly or it might be BLURRY) wondering if, some day, we too migfht be as cool as you.
Feel better?
Go play some games!

If you consider us entertainment, you seriously need to get out once in awhile.

I cant believe gamers are crying over the resolution and graphics of Gal Civ.I've been gaming for years so i remember the C64 years. C64 only had 16 colors but I still had a lot of fun playing them . The games didnt cost as much as today, C64 had a lot of variety & ideas for games. It wasnt as big of a gamble to make a game like it is now . No, I dont want to go back to C64 days but I'm gald Stardock made Gal Civ unique and fun while trying to keep the cost down with the limited graphics . Let's face it' Gal Civ probably wont sell as good as a lot of Shooters which can afford spending more cash on graphics. Plus another thing I've notice on playstation 2(and with some PC games) is the better the graphic are the shorter the game gets ... most PS2 isnt worth buying because I can finish them in one rental with penty time to spare.with Gal Civ I've got my money worth of game play

I find it amusing how so many people can completey miss a point being made all because they are so busy defending a game/company that they probably spend too much time on anyways. I would hate to actually have a figure on how many of the folks on this board spend their entire evenings (if they even have a job during the day) instead of with their families. Oh wait, 45, single, still living with parents, makes sense now...

And oh yeah, I had a friggin atari 2600 and almost every game system or pc since then so drop the age bs... And yes, there are some C64 games that are still better than 99% of the crap that comes out today. That is why I buy 3-4 games an entire year for combined XBox AND PC... Most suck. Galactic Civ. doesn't suck...

1280x1024 just because...

I have to say that the ability to change screen resolutions would be nice, but what bugs me is the whole 16-bit windowed mode. I really hate having to change from 32 to 16 bit! If GalCiv needs this to happen, then all i want is for the program to change this for me and then change it back when I quit the game. I'd think that this would be a simple fix and nothing too complicated.

Just my $.02.

Him not worth any more talk. Bobo go now. Bobo terrified of clever comeback and insult him get for sure. Ohhh. Bobo shaking too much.

Sheesh, so much words for a totally unimportant issue ... Sure that some additional 216*256 pixels totally changes everything in the game , a 1024*768 game is utter crap...

Quantum, next personal attack and you go bye bye.

If you dislike the resolution of GalCiv so much then don't play it. You've made your position clear.

Changeable resolutions are indeed nice. But such support is non-trivial. It would be easier if we were a purely 3D game but then at that point we wouldn't be able to run on P2-400 machines very well.

My laptop natively runs at 1440 x 1024 and GalCiv, to me, looks fine and I also run it regularly o nmy 1280x1024 LCD and don't have a problem either. Perhaps you have more discrminating tastes than the rest of us, but the fact remains, we won't be making GalCiv resolution independent any time soon. Maybe in some future sequel we can revisit it. But certainly not in this incarnation.
